I wanted to see wat some of yalls opinons on this idea..sorry if this post is kind of long lol..I have a young real rough bluetick and i have bayed hogs with him and shot them. But i want to start back catchin them alive.. I used to use 3 or 4 bay dogs then a pit for catchin but cant afford to feed that many now..The dog i have bays good and is fast to stop a hog when bayed if they try to run he will grab and stop them then back to baying hes a great dog..But as far as getn back to live catches do yall think i should get an even rougher dog that will run with mine and catch as soon as mine bays so mine will catch with him after seein d other grab kinda like monkey seemonkey do??? Or do yall think i should buy another pit and do like most folks and keep him with me untill my bluetick bays then let d pit catch?Huh?    Im open to any opinons u guys may have.. So wat do yall think??

the way you describe your bluetick tells me he is an above average hog dog...he has the ability to find a hog...and what makes him above average is being able to keep most of them stopped...

this is what I am envisioning as to what is happening...the dog has just the right amount of grit to back up and bay if the hog does not try to run...the hog does not try to run because he knows this about this dog...the hog can read the dog just as if they were speaking the same language...

add another dog to the pack (bay) and the hog will start breaking bay because he knows that 2 dogs of this type will never stop biting at him...so running is the only option for him...

if you use a running catch dog then you will need to stay up as best you can because there are 2  things that can and eventually will happen...it's not if but when...the first thing I will mention but not necessarily in that order...dogs will eventually get hurt or worse...or they will over heat from being caught too long...but like already mentioned...some dogs get whipped up on and they will back off from being running catch dogs...true running catch dogs that can and will long range will eventually get caught up in one of these scenarios...usually sooner than later...

Like I mentioned before...keep your bluetick doing what he is already doing and get you a powerful walk in catch dog...feeding 2 hog dogs that can get the job done is pretty awesome in my book...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...
