caught this guy with nothing but a frayed out nylon rope. I live on what's called the middle fork broad river. Unless it's rained this thing averages ankle to knee deep. I love to fish so I went wading down and found some holes, I would have never expected these fish to be in there. We (me and my little cousin who's is in the picture) had nothing some worms and bobbers. We saw these gar surfacing and decided to walk back home and come up with a game plan to catch some. Went home and did some research,  came up with the rope trick and wouldn't you know it, we ended up with one.  For those that call them trash fish , I highly recommend eating the back straps out of these fish. It's very good. I have people at my house that don't even eat fish and they were even impressed. The eggs are very toxic though, stay away from them. But the meat is not like fish meat at all. Thanks for looking! !

Reminds me of stories my dad would tell me of his childhood in south carolina about catching four foot gar in tiny creeks, he said sometimes when it flooded they would find them where the floodwater was standing out in fields.

I haven't seen it flood out of the banks yet. It's came dang close a few times though. But you can believe I'll get the fish out of the puddles and eat Em if there still alive and the critters don't beat me to it.
