Thought ya'll might like to see some of the breeds they use for hunting over there.

This is Christor with his West Siberian Laika. He uses him as a watchdog on Wild Boar.

Some of Mikel's East Siberian Laikas used on Moose & Brown bear.

Roine's Moosedog. He is a elkhound, one of two breeds of elkhound that they use. The elkhound we see in the states is the smaller version.

Don't remember the breed but they look exactly like a Catahoula & they are used for Moose.

Eva with her two Finnish hounds. They are used for Hare & Lynx. Look very similar to running Walkers.

Two of my guides with my two Potlickers over there.

I bet that moose hunt with dogs would be a  kick in the tail, is that a total package hunt or just various pictures...

I ordered a book a while back about the scent hounds from all around the world, it's pretty neat knowing that there are other cultures who have admiration for hunting with dogs like us Americans.

Those are awesome pics Cajun. That first Laika dog looks like one of them bear dogs that our fish and game use out here in CA. But the Laikas in the second pic look a lot more like wolves or huskies. Wow I would love to see all of them work on a moose hunt, it must be exciting as heck! Great looking plotts in the last pic too. Thanks for sharing those.

Yea Rednose, those East Siberian Laikas sure do look like they have a lot of wolf in them. Wonder if they are open or silent? Probably open so they can tell where the dogs are with the moose. I bet if you didn't get to the bay up quick enough, those "Laikas/wolves" would start helping themselves to some moose meat. LOL

The Laikas & elkhounds are primarily silent & they only run one at a time. They do not want aggressive bay dogs because they do not want the moose to break. The Laikas are used more on bear & the elkhounds are used more on Moose. I was more impressed with the Elkhounds then the Laikas. I did not get to hunt with that many but the Laikas I hunted with are short ranged & very hot nose tending to wind there game more then trailing. The Elkhounds seem to have much more hunt, stick, & better noses. JMO on the few I did get to hunt with.
I was really surprised at what a dog running country Sweden is. They love to hunt everything with dogs. They hunt the traditional way of putting standers out & then driving the woods with people & dogs. They are a dog loving country but they are also having trouble with the Anti hunting crowd & people like Peta. Also, a lot of upland bird hunting as well as ducks.
