Don't know about hog dogs, but when I was into the bulldogs it was one of my favorite crosses. Most important part of a cross like this in my opinion is to make sure the dog you are doubling up on is worthy. Good luck.

I reckon when you said cornered off the gyp...I interpret that as she being the dam to the 1/2 brother and sister...if the dam is a really good one with a proven sire and dam behind her then you will have a better chance of getting a higher percentage of quality pups...

if both sires to the half siblings are related and of high quality then that will up your percentages as well...
if they are drastically different from each other then you can expect a bigger range in differences in the pups to be...

a method that worked for me was to breed 3 generations (inbreeding and linebred) to ensure a high quality of dogs that were selectively bred that were proven dogs as grand parents and parent to the dog to be used as the main sire...use this dog for breeding to half sister, daughter and grand daughter...but only the very best...I didn't have many problems and had a high percentage of good dogs...

and just as important to select the very best puppies for hunting and breeding...

testing pups not so much for training but for identifying the pups that are born with that natural ability...breeding natural ability begets more natural ability...

example of natural ability...road a few 4 month old pups and you have a pig staged cross wind and when the pups are roading and one of the pups puts nose to the wind and runs into the wind currents that is carrying the hog scent...and that pup goes and bays without any training or encouragement...that is a great feeling...and the second pup is tagging along and it takes that pup 3 or 4 times for it to catch on...it might not matter much...but when that pup that winded is doing many other things naturally you should make note and more than likely that pup will make a hunting dog and a breeder...

many people will tell you that you will be lucky to get 2 or 3 good dogs from a litter...but when done right the opposite is true...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...

i been doing it for  a long time ......it don't seem to do any better than my  line bred litter's .....but mine are extremely line bred probably inbred more than line bred ..but to start... if your female is the dog you want more of your on the right track ....but  you may have some more work to do to get rid of throw backs in the litter's ....stick with it it will come round ......keep dogs that look like the dog your wanting to clone even if  there not  super dogs  they will throw more likeness than a  dog that looks off in the litter .....off looking pups in litters is basically a set back not saying they want be good but could change your dirrection if used to breed with .....if you want to capture traits and likeness then they will need  to also look alike .......when you get there you breed to try and clone the best that will maintain your blood you have created ....... you can't create a line of super dogs but a good working line bred like this will have  more exceptional dogs pop up than any other way i know of .....

No problems for me, in fact success. I have even done litter mate breeding's with success but they were not litter mates out of tightly bred dogs. Lots of luck With father daughter breedings as well but i will be out crossing to another tight line bred dog from their ie I wouldnt go any tighter, they were a little smaller in size but threw normal sized dogs and what they lacked in size they made up for in heart, nose, bottom, and were as athletic as any. Ive done this with BMCs, Dogo, scott bred ABs, and the littermate breeding was actually a dutch/malinois shepherd - all great dogs and were working dogs except the dutch sh. he was just a pet but smart good with kids etc

I've got plans to take a gyp of mine back to a full littermate of her dads, then a male pup of that litter back to my gyp hopefully before she's too old. That's the idea anyway. Really like my gyp, wouldn't at all mind having a yard full of dogs like her. Just want a little more back up in them which is what I'm hoping to get in the cross back to her uncle then double back up on her and then see what I got and go from there. This line has been around for a good while and produces a lot of stock minded working dogs
