Its contest time and we are working on the NEW BAY & SHOOT DIVISION and would like some input. Please respond under the poll if you will be entering the Bay & Shoot Division, the Dog and Knife Division, or not entering at all. Thanks.
How many people should be on a Bay & Shoot Team?

The Bay and Shoot competiton is a division that was added per the request of some of our members. It will have its own entry fee, rules and payout and will be held the same weekend of the contest March 5-7, 2010.
This question was brought up in the meeting yesterday and there were mixed feelings......
The main difference in the 2 and 4 man teams will be the amount of help the team will have and the amount of people shooting that the team will have. We are looking for a response from our members that are going to actually be in the bay and shoot contest. We need to know what are members and the people hunting this contest want.
Thanks for your help!

I cant see 4 people on a team for shooting over dogs. I might enter this instead of the 4 man catch team. 2 names on a team is about right I think.

This post is a good chance for bay and shoot hunters to give their input. IMO I would'nt think that you would need more than 2 people to bay and shoot, but the same can be said with catch and tie too....Also I would think it to be benificial to have more team members=more dogs. I would think that just because you had more team members, that not all of them would be shooting (hopefully). ![Grin](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/grin.gif) Even though I am a catch and tie hunter, I think that the rules should be "up to a 4 person team".

I have a movement, I mean move a makement, I mean make a motion...... we'll get it yet.
We'd really like to get as much input on this deal as we can, last year we had a few bay and shooters wanting to know more, so hopefuly we can hear from them again.

You could go with 3 man teams or 4 men and two rifles. The latter would be close to impossible to inforce, but more men will make it easier to handle dogs and clean hogs to keep them in edible condition. To be honest a totally seperate division does not make me wanna enter the contest. I would be more apt to join a team with other people who own catch dogs. But I also understand that including bay and shoot with catch dog teams can cause some animosity from catch dog folks that don't totally understand the way shooting a hog at a bay takes place. Ofcourse you can say that the hog was shot from a stand with no dogs but you can also say the hog was caught out of a pen with catch dogs. At that point you are just splitting hairs if people want to cheat, they will, no matter which method is used. In my opinion, if you want to really include bay and shoot in the contest it needs to be in contest not in a seperate division. Some people may percieve a rifle as an advantage which it is not necessarily so although it can be. Then again catch dogs have an advantage over rifles in some situations as well.
There are ways to prevent cheating the system Like limit the rifle to a lever action iron sights rifle which is what almost every one uses to begin with. One shot limit; head, spine, or vitals, hogs with two bullet holes DQ'ed. Could also make 4 man teams and one member from each team is drawn at random to go with another randomly drawn team as a quality control measure. That man might not be happy about it but if they have the true reason for the contest at heart then it should be no problem. Also would be a good way to meet new people. Also hogs with no bullet holes have to be accepted because bay dogs do catch hogs exp. those on the catchier side, even bigger hogs from time to time. Just a few thoughts but in my opinion it wont ever be more than an after thought unless its included just the same as catch dogs.

We will be polygraphing the Bay & Shoot Division just like the Dog - Knife.
If both divisions have 4 man teams,,, then a team could enter both the knife and b&s divisions. Not sure if that is a pro or con.
