So Ive been seeing a few tracks lately and I been trying to feed a couple young dogs what i can in tracks . Been trying to go a different rought with these two.Strate bay no catch .Well i don't know to be mad or ok with it but they got one today after work. By the sound of it i was convinced it was a big boar gruntin and they had caught out. No barking just gruntin. So i got closer to get some pics under the canopy and wasn't no dogs caught . Its and orchard so unless its in the rows or you are on your knees you are blind. This giant red and black spotted sow was chasing my dogs all over cause they was chasing sqishys. She wasnt to happy about this at all. I watch  for a few seconds and my dogs don't give two Slow Joe's about her only the piglets. They caught a couple before i hollerd at em and she gave it to em each. She would run back and forth and hammer the Joe Biden out of em . It was actually kinda comical. Anyways i called em out and let the 444 howl. Just wanted her to leave and the dogs think i got it. Never came close and she ran off. Walking back to the buggy wasn't fun they kept trying to go back but the old tritronics never fails. They did good overall i guess ,they where bayed or found her about 180 from the buggy and quick about 45 seconds from hitting the ground. No pics this time but im gonna try 1 dog tomorrow and see if i can some pics .

A lot of dogs prefer to catch a shoat vs bay a mature hog. It’s frustrating but it’s a natural “prey selection” behavior. Risk vs Reward. A cowboy friend of mine watched a pack of feral dogs distract the sow while other dogs grabbed every shoat in the litter. Sometimes we encourage it by starting dogs on shoats. It’s best if you can keep some shoats at your house and break them there. I’m tone breaking a 15 month old from it in the woods and she’s learned to be quiet about it. We are going to vibrate next. If that don’t work, bumps from the shock will follow. Her breeding has her wired to catch so I’m fightin an uphill battle with her. Hope yours turn out to be nice bay dogs.

A lot of dogs will follow your lead, monkey see monkey do. Next time you’re down under there with them try barking at the sow and not chasing the shoats. They will likely pay attention to you. Lol I’m picking of course. Maturity will help some. I’ve experimented some over the years with the hogs my dogs were started on. I do think it has a bearing on them in the woods. For example, I’ve gotten to where I don’t hardly ever show them a sow. It seems like they bay more boat hogs when I do this and it also seems like they have a higher percentage of saves in the sense of staying with a boat that try’s to brush them off on other hogs. I think you could fix the shoat chasing if it becomes a problem. Right now though, I don’t know that I would be that worried about it. Another way the kinda stop that that I would try is by trying to get your catch dog on the sow. I would bet they would abandon the shoats to come to a caught hog.  A couple times of that might plant the seed. Just food for thought. Good luck, it sounds like they have want to.

Next time we go T, you need to show us how it's done and I will video it so we can share your technique with the masses. hahahaha

The young dogs are getting after it. Look forward to seeing some pics. My favorite part is seeing young dogs turn it on.

To catch boars…train bay dogs in a pen using a 150-200 pound boar instead of shoats or sows…you might want to break off the cutters..

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...

The same two dogs winded and stopped a big boar hog a while back so I guess I'm not really worried...I guess? They been on a few since but his was kinda interesting to watch but yet aggravating.  Tdog right now I'd rather not with the cd , I don't want these two getting catchy. I'm trying to head a different style then where I'm at. The rest of the dogs I have, I can't really woods hunt. They keep getting laid up. Perfect for the orchards and the open country I hunt but

Shotgun Ruben ... True on that. These two where started on shoats they wouldn't touch em only run around chasing. Scared of big hogs while younger. The rest was also but I kept putting em on  a few rank ones we had and I do believe that stuck with em. It seems my older dogs have a jack for finding boar hogs. Red nose pics are hard to come by ,you lived here too
