Flies!

I'm not doing anything different this year than in the past, but for some reason the flies are about to carry my hounds off.  I recently hung diazinon cattle tags on their collars and put out some traps around the kennels.  It helped, but there still are a lot of them hanging around.  The guy at the feed store told me that for the tags to be most effective that they really need to be in contact with the skin as the diazinon is absorbed.  He recomended cutting two slits in the tags and threading the collar through so it's in constant contact with their neck.  Sounded strange to me, so I just hung them with clips.  Anyone ever heard of this, and is it right?

Also any other suggestions that have worked for anyone else?  Down at the horse barn we had a system installed last year that has spray heads over each stall.  It sprays at a set interval and it seems to work VERY well.  I'm thinking of doing some research when I build my permanent kennels and see if a system like that would be effective on the dogs also.

Flies getting bad at my kennels as well.  I just sprayed mine down today.  I use Prolate (cattle and swine) concentrate.  Seems to work well for the dogs, I just mix 1 ounce to a gallon and spray em down.  I also spray my kennels with some LD 44 Z(?) I get from the vet supply.  Hope this helps

I hang the cattle tags on the collars. Didnt help very much at all. I still have them on but I found that the stuff I use for fleas works good on flies. It is the bayer tree and shrub stuff you can get at Wal-Mart. It is only 18 bucks for a good size bottle. The flies left the cur and lacy dogs alone for the most part but were thick on my lab and bulldog.
