I haven't been on here for over a month as we have been traveling and my phone wouldn't let me get on but I got back home Monday and caught up.  I was tickled to see that Thomas had had a visit from his old friend Edgar. He got Edgar out hunting and even got him up to a bay to watch it. Edgar was 86 and this was his last hunt. Thomas let me know yesterday that Edgar had passed in the night. Now I didn't know him well but I got to hunt with him a couple times when he had come over and he was very memorable since he could s×÷t talk with the best of them. First time I met him he was in his late 70's and we were sitting in a pasture waiting on the dogs to bay when a little pig no bigger than a football ran across this big pasture. Now Edgar just couldn't stand to see it get away so he took off on his bike to intercept it. When he got close it ran under his wheeler for cover. This old man jumped off his bike and tried to catch it while it ran in and out and around. We were rolling on the ground laughing at this for I don't know how long. He finally wore it down and caught it. He come rolling back with quite the grin on his face. If you have missed T on here I am here to let you know why.  Thomas, I am sorry for your loss, he was a good friend,  a good man and a respected hog hunter. RIP Edgar

Sorry for your loss. Sounds like he really enjoyed it. I know he must have really appreciated spending time with you and listening to the dogs.

Thanks guys. A character he was! He was a man that most either loved or hated because he spoke his mind without apology. I appreciate people like that myself but the thin skinned usually don’t. I talked to him the day before he passed and he was still reeling from the trip out here to hunt. It wouldn’t mean as much probably from most people because you figure a lot of times they are just being nice, but hear compliments about my dogs from someone that’s as brutally honest as he was, made me feel good as well as the fact that I appreciated his friendship the way I did. He cracked me up with his brutal honesty. He was telling me that he thought he needed to get him another hog dog. He said he could use a catch dog but he thought he might be able to ease in and shoot some hogs. You could tell all the want to was still there but the can do wasn’t. On this last trip, my last oldest sons brought his 6 year old nephew on a hunt. I’m sure most of you have heard the song by Randy Travis “I thought that he walked on water”. A line in the song struck me while we were sitting in an open pasture watching this little guy chase these little pigs that weren’t over a week old. It was quite a show. I looked over at Edgar and he was laughing so hard. In the song it the boy would ride his make shift stick pony in circles while his grand dad laughed a lot. That’s exactly how it was. Edgar never failed to call if the weather was bad or I was sick or anything. This last ice storm he called and called and we had no phone service either. When we finally got it back he had left several voicemails and each one you could hear more worry in his voice. The last one he said bud I’m worried about you, I can’t get ahold of you and I don’t know wether to come out there or what to do! I called him and let him know we were all ok and he said well, do I need to load some generators and saws come out there? Of course I told him no but he sure meant it and it meant a lot to me knowing it. True friends aren’t something we are blessed with. A lot of us think we have them only to find the hard way that we don’t. I lost a true one here. I’m grateful to Scott Basford for bringing Edgar out. I makes me feel good that the picture on his obituary is one from when he was just here. His wife and family said they hadn’t seen him smile like that in years. RIP EDGAR, I love you and miss you already bud.

Sorry to hear about the news Thomas. Edgar sounded like a good guy. We are missing more and more of his kind in Florida every day.

Sorry to hear that Thomas. The good men are going every day and it don’t seem like they’re making many more of them.

Thomas I can’t recall if you ever said you had the chance to meet him personally,  but Jamie Woodward was called home Monday evening. I feel for you man, this one cut deep. These guys should have been the ones in the books and with the tv shows.

Thanks Slim. I didn’t know about Jaime until yesterday. I had called Johnny Morton to convey my condolences to him because I knew they were good friends. It’s inevitable, we are going to face it. It’s just the natural order that Jaime and Edgar should go before most of the rest of us. Parents and grandparents shouldn’t bury their kids or grandkids. Both these guys sure did a lot of living and they did it their way. Heck with what this world is turning into, I’m thinking those two dinosaurs are the lucky ones.
