Haha, they weren't hard to beat that day. After that pic I had a bit of a wreck that messed up my potential score, and Lisa had a wreck early in her run, ruining her chances as well.
There was another fellow "Todd Webb" with a yellow dog that did place I think third. He had won the Saturday competition at Garvin, but on this day even though he made a real smooth run his dog had loafed some and the cattle he drew allowed the dog to loaf but the judges discounted him some.
There were some good dogs that made good runs that rightfully won. There were some extra good Cowboys for this sort of thing at both events, I always enjoy studying the dogs and Cowboys.  There are some folks that couldn't drive a thirsty duck to water in this world haha.

Those are some good looking Curs Clue. Do they run a pair of dogs in each run or just one?

Do you have any of those yellow dogs you want to get rid of right now?

Thanks NLA, and no TMATT, I don't have anything to sell. Actually don't sell many other than extra pups, hardly ever keep an entire litter.

Well, if it was easy more people would do it! Looks like fun and aside from the hiccup, it sounds like your dogs did good. I was hunting with a buddy one day. As we were driving across the pasture to the dogs he stopped on his brand new 4-wheeler that was pulling a brand new dog trailer. As he looked at his brand new garmin, he said you know, our dogs may not be worth a damn, but by golly we look like we know what we’re doing and that’s the main thing. Lol, you at least looked like you knew what you were doing, win, lose, or draw.

agreed, if it were not from the old man's blood I'd of never owned a good yellow dog, all my blood is pretty much from you and your contacts. Just had 4 pups hit the ground a few days ago, 75% hawk (high % weatherford ben) 25% from a Tyson/bear male to a clue female. THANK YOU, cant wait to see them come on next year

How’s the high percentage weatherford dogs do on hogs for you? I see you made a cross on clues blood and wondering what you expect outta that cross?

I love them, They hunt hard, probably only cull 20-30% but a high % make dogs.  Lots of natural hunt in general. Biggest complaint is there gritty and cull themselves, I dont need yellow CD's lol

The Ben dogs are known for being rough and catchy. Ben himself was a catch dog at least that’s how Randy used him.

These dogs do have some of the same blood as the W. Ben dogs but have been bred quite differently, they "typically" have lots of get ahead and square up, are not catchy, varying degrees of bite to stop cattle or bring one back that tries to leave from pretty rough to pretty mild, mostly in between. I do not want a dog snatching and grabbing around cattle that are bunched and handling. I want them to back up and bark, I don't want them circling while driving cattle but up front leading and controlling the speed.
I've had some that would not bite a cow and some that started out with too  much bite around a bunch but I can knock that out of them in a short time.  Some are natural lead dogs and some I have to ask them to back up when driving while they are young and fresh. You don't have to worry about them catching baby calves, in 40 some years I have raised 2 that would do that, they didn't live to be old.

I love reading about dogs like this. Old Man, do you use them mostly on site cattle or do they have to go hunt’em up? Depending on where you are here, it could be either way. There are actually still several places where you have to have a dog that will go find cattle.

Usually when we have to really hunt to find cattle it is the few outlaws or remnants that are brushed up, bigger bunches of cattle in bigger places are pretty easily found. Lots of times cattle are in sight when we pull in and run off so it is real fresh sign, this is really good for pups.

I understand. I bet it is good for the pups. How long do you think you’ve had this line of dogs?
