Hunted with Larry Smith, Charles, Chris Powell, Mike the Knife and the Lil Lake crew. Saturday we ran a good boar all over and he finally left the club and had to go around and catch the dogs. Sunday I got a strike and found a track we missed going out that morning. Tracked him and got him off the road and put Hank down and Charles Roux(off Hank). They trailed out about 400 yards south, then about 600 yards east and split. Hank ended up crossing the road headed north. Went about 400 yards and hooked west. Probably went 600 yards or so and bayed the hog in his bed. Walked in about 200 yards and the hog broke. He crossed the road and they packed a couple more dogs to him. He bayed about 60 yards off the road and we got 30 yards from him and sent 2 bulldogs. Caught hog and he was a tank. Really good Barr. Went one more spot and caught a 90-100# sow.

I bet ole Hank was talking $h$$ to ole Roux, boy ya listen like your mother and her side.””I said North and I meant north and now you done missed out on the lesson”. “Remember I’m your paw boy, I’ll getcha there if ya just listen a little!” Lol sounds like they did a really good job and that’s a heck of nice catch. I sure like seeing all those youngins enjoying themselves. I bet they don’t forget this one!

LOL I was carrying Andys Garmin. When we turn the bulldogs loose, it is almost a even bet that Andy might beat the bulldogs in.

T dog, That was a pretty cold track. I still dont know how the dogs didnt rig it. The wind must have been wrong. We have a excuse. It wasnt daylight when we rode by there in the morning. I actually saw the tracks about the same time the dogs rigged. When we were tracking him down the road you could see where we had ran over the tracks coming in with the side x sides. Ole Hank at almost 9 years old is still showing the young dogs how it is done. He is most hog hunters dream Plott. He trails silent. Only time he opens is if the hog breaks and runs. A few weeks before when we were up there Roux got on one by himself and ran that hog all over the country. About 3 1/2 hours of running and probably 45 minutes of baying and he can sure clock them off. That was about a 200# boar. Thanks everybody.

Those old dogs might get slower but what they lack in youth and agility they make up for in knowledge usually. Ole Roux sounds like he has the want to for sure. It’s hard to figure why they don’t smell them sometimes. Like you say, it’s gotta be right  for it to happen.

Was/is ole Hank pretty salty or is he a looser baying dog?

I never did consider Hank a gritty dog. The last two years tho he has gotten gritter. He has started catching 120# hogs and under by himself. Dont know why that happened but the last couple of years he has sure gotten scarred up.

I have seen that before. I think it happens with dogs that have that burning desire to produce game more than have a chase. He probably knows he’s older and losing a step as well as he just doesn’t want to make another long run. Hank sounds like a thinker.

T Dog  Hank's claim to fame is his ability to run a hog down. If it can be bayed he will do it. He has that all day stamina to really keep pushing and even in his advanced age, he is still the dog to beat.  So far the only difference I have seen in him is he doesn't quite recover as fast from those all day races. I have hunted him with a lot of other dogs over the years and he has gotten ahead of all of them. My Showtime dog and his daughter are about the only dogs I have seen that can run with him. I know there  are some out there, I just have not hunted with them.

Now that’s my kind of dog for sure. To me, an exceptionally fast tracking dog is worth their weight in gold. I think that bays as many hogs as bite a lot of times.

He put a pretty good hole in Hank's thigh and one bulldog got a pretty good gash in his jaw but nothing life threatening.  We were pretty lucky in that regard.
