Just getting started on the hogs, and only have 2 mature dogs to hunt. I have knocked the cast out of them making them follow me out of the woods while bear hunting and they are having trouble learning its okay to go as long as I haven't asked them to stay, so day before yesterday I loaded them and 4 pups up to just go and make several drops and not walk them, hoping to get them to casting again. I would turn out the 2 mature dogs and 2 of the pups, the pups would go haha, but each pair of them had a deer race.
They had never seen or smelled a hog. Well that evening after dark Adam and I made a little round doing the same thing without the pups, just my 2 and Adam's 2 mature dogs they were casting a  little but not great but did wind and jump a hog baying him without any race at all. We caught him, about a 130 lb. spotted boar, I told Adam we should take him home and fool with the pups so I wouldn't feel guilty about shocking them off trash.
Yesterday morning we turned the hog out in the middle of a big field and I dumped the pups to him, they fired to him without hesitation but right away went to roughing him up, he was intent on going south while we wanted him to go north, so we caught him and the pups and moved the hog to the edge of some timber and brush with the intention of letting get completely gone and turning the pups on the track. We kicked him in the edge of the brush and he still came out going south, which although it was several miles away, was the direction back to where we had caught him (don't know if that was the cause or not) so we called it a day no need to let them catch him again just causing a dangerous habit of thinking they could maul all hogs.
We went hunting again last night and I took 2 of the pups along with the mature dogs, did not cast the pups but the dogs struck about 150 from the truck in a big creek bottom so I cut the pups to them. There is lots of standing water, sloughs, and thickets in there and they ran circles in there for a while before lining out through some good running. They ran out of that section into the next and we beat it around there to try to keep the hog from crossing out of that section. We were successful, just so happens there was a "hog trail" right where we stopped and the race was coming right at us. Right in that area it is a solid wall of briars so the race slowed way down and they hit a lick or two bayed before turning back towards where they had came from. When they got out of the briars and back into some good running the speed picked up. They were paralleling the road I was on. I was staying just ahead of the dogs they were 100-150 yds out my window and I was driving 15-20 mph, heck of a race. They crossed back into the section they had came out of originally and turned away from me to the big creek in there. In about 15 minutes of running in there they showed to be bayed. I drove 3 miles to get around on their side and on their side of the creek and started in to them, about half way there I heard a hog squealing. They had caught a big shoat or a sow and were across a 50 foot wide deep slough from me, but by the time I got there they had disposed of the hog and I was able to coax them into swimming out to me.
I feel certain we had ran a good boar that big race and when he got back in the area we had started him in he ran through some more hogs. I was real pleased with the two pups making the race, the dogs had ran 6 miles total and the pups ran up the whole race navigating the bad terrain. I'd had them on a few bear and they'd ran a deer or two but their first real hog hunt wasn't too bad. I think the other 2 pups would have done just as well, so at this point I have fingers crossed and positive thoughts on this litter.

Good deal, nice when those training runs work out. It won't be long and those youngsters will be earning their feed.

Yes, they are littermates from a cross here in the yard. Daddy is a straight Gantte bred dog and mama is a straight Weems bred female.  I can't raise any more of them though, their mothers kidneys failed this fall.

Not being able to produce more of them means they are likely going to be pretty nice hounds. I sure hope so anyway.

Thanks guys, I've been satisfied with the way all 4 started, nearly identical in abilities so far, there isn't a favorite among them ability wise at this point. Haven't been able to judge individual nose thus far, time will tell how they finish, and it won't be long, by June they'll be 95 percent of what they are going to be.
