Took 3 of them, the fourth is in heat. They lack a couple of weeks being a year old and I was thinking they could bay a hog on their own with the minimal exposure they've had so I cast them in a good spot they went about 4 hundred yds and hit a cold track, wasn't saying much, in another 3 hundred they jumped and just ran 3 or 4 hundred and bayed.  Uncommonly easy hog. I had turned the older dogs out to go check them before they bayed so now I have 5 dogs on one sow they caught her right on the edge of the ice across the slough from me. In a minute or two she shook them loose due to them being on the ice and stepped up the bank and backed into the briars, they all 5 went to baying-not even trying to catch. I took off up the slough looking for a place to cross, the ice wouldn't hold me so a half mile on up, the slough narrowed to a ditch I could cross and went back down to the bayed dogs and began to catch them. The sow was sitting solid and wasn't about to give up her briar sanctuary.
Was going back up the slough to where it narrowed to a ditch and the dogs struck on the leash, I cut the 3 pups loose and off they went. I just headed on back to the truck on the west side of the section and loaded the older dogs, then checked the tracker the pups were now on the east side of the section near the highway, I hustled around there to be road guard and they went back to the west side and were circling in some briar patches, I figured they'd get bayed in there so traveled back to their side.
They left there again going to the east side when they got over there they split, one pup stayed to the north the others went south a ways.  The one pup came bayed within earshot and I listened awhile to see if it was gonna break, it did not so I turned the older female out of the truck and waited for her to get there so I'd know if the hog was gonna break from her arrival it did not, so I started to them. In the mean time the other 2 bayed to the south.  When I got to the first bay I was just going to catch the dogs but the hog couldn't stand it and broke. It went a couple hundred yards south and circled back near where I was and bayed again, across the ice covered creek. While I was trying to talk the dogs into quitting the hog and coming to me I heard the other two begin running my way but with me hollering and calling and the dogs baying it pulled those 2 pups in to this bay. Took awhile to get them persuaded to coming off the and to me but finally got the 3 pups and the older gyp caught.  Had a good exposure on the 3 pups and an enjoyable day.

It's kinda hard to get them bayed solid enough to get the dogs off without a catchdog haha. I was fortunate today.

Slim today I did not take the mule, the area I was hunting is pretty well sectioned off therefore pretty easily accessible.  The pups I'm hog hunting are Plotts, gonna take the Cur Dogs tomorrow and pen some cattle for a guy about an hour NW of me.
NLAhunter I was real pleased with the pups, it was actually all 3 of them second hog hunt where we got in some hogs, but earlier I had them on a few bear so it's not like it was the second time they've ever been hunted.

Those pups are doing a good job for you…I would be pretty happy with their progress at this age…

Went to 3 places, 1st place went real smooth and normal, 2nd place cattle would not move from a horse "no respect whatsoever" did get them penned, then 8 or 10 got out on the road and had to repen and catch some of them, 3rd place cattle were stickier than the 2nd, never saw any like them, they ran bawled and fought dogs for a long time with several trying to escape one at a time. When they got settled it was almost impossible to move them even though the dogs were giving them room so I put the dogs up and still they didn't want to move from a horse enough to"drive" them, it was getting late and the owner had to go to hauling the other 2 places so he called it off for the day, rather embarrassing for me, the owner and his help.
Not too long ago I was playing with my nephews Corriente cows and for a year or so he had left dogs bayed on them for hours, they learned if they'd be still it was okay. I was by myself and nearly rode my horse to death going back and forth across the back "pushing" those cattle. I went to the truck and got my hot shot, for 30 minutes everytime I could reach a cow I lit her up.    After that I drove them a mile just in a good steady walk without having to push them or swing back and forth behind them. I'm old and wore out but had never saw this issue before unless your dogs were fighting cattle on the front.
