T, Deputy Dawg Kohl and the Cannon made a round this morning. Turned T's 2 and Kohl's young gyp and a gyp puppy. They immediately got gone. It appears they got one a boar that will set down for one dog but leaves when any help comes. When they hit 750 yards Ava's collar totally quit. We heard her at one point a couple hours later but caught a couple smaller hogs with the other dogs and then seriously started trying to find her. A couple of us hung around where we dropped out and T and Kohl went all over God's green acre listening and looking. Finally heard her and she was on a place you couldn't get on so T managed to call her out. He found her tracks and a big hog track right where he lost her . Terrible feeling not getting to reward her for sticking with the hog all that time but that's the reality. One 130 acre piece with no access is the sh---s. On a high note I got to send the green bulldog to a bay from a distance where we knew the bay dogs had it and he started straight for the bark but turned and run a trail instead of crashing brush. I'd like to say he was eared up but there were no ears. He did hit where the ear should have been. For those who know APBT Peds, he is a double son of Kincannons Musket. Strongly linebred on Little Man/Miss Kim. His manners have been great and he will ride in the box with bitches. Scary day but it all worked out.

The worst feeling in the world is losing a good dog. Glad yall got her back. Sounds like a good hunt otherwise and glad your bulldog is cranking.

It was VERY disappointing having to call her off after she’d been there for a solid 4-5 hours solo. I was impressed with Kohl’s pup. She ran her own hog today. This is her 4-5 hunt and she’s trying hard to contribute. As game bred as ole Mookie is, he is really level headed. He has real potential to be very good.

Glad you got your dog back. That is a sinking feeling. At least yall got a few hogs out of the deal.

Just curious what happened to the collar?

I have mine work fine then all of a sudden shut off. I dont know if something pushes the button or hog hits it and they shut off.

We had problems with this collar just shutting off before. We normally turn our collars on and let them set in one spot for a few minutes and link up good. This one would turn on and link up but after a few minutes just turn off. My daughter updated it for me, actually a couple of times back to back. We turned it on and left it at the truck while hunting a couple of times and it did fine. Ran it on moon and it worked fine. Then yesterday just started it again. About 10-15 minutes on the ground we lost reception and never regained it. I’m real disappointed in the garmin collars and their durability. I feel like they are just enough better than the competitors that you have to go with them but not what I would consider great quality. I feel like they could do some things to drastically cut down on some issues and possibly eliminate all together. They don’t because they want to always be “improving technology”. They should fix what’s broke before trying to add more bells and whistles. They would make more money, and likely put the competition out of business if their quality was elite.

Ive had some like that. It is frustrating to say the least. I had once last week...i fully charged and went to put on the dog...stone dead. Luckily i cought it before. I try to do the same as you, give it some before I turn the dog out.

In Fl, we have to by law, have a gps collar with correction on a hunting dog. So to be in compliance, about the only choice is the garmin.

I’ve had that experience before with the charge as well. I haven’t in a while though. I also had the issue of sometimes a particular collar didn’t want to charge on certain charger. Now I keep a little wire brush at my charging station and I brush the contact points of the charger and the collar. It seems to have made the difference with that issue.

Twice in the 5 or 6 years that I've had these TT15 collars I have had that happen but fortunately the dogs weren't out of pocket. All I did to clear them out and get them back going was to remove them from the tracker and re-pair them.    On the charger issue, like you I clean the collar and the charger, but also lube the little prongs on the charger and work them in and out once in a while. There will always be 1 of them that gets some corrosion on it, don't know if it's a ground or hot one but there is something going on with one of them.
