Went a couple of days ago with 3 of the pups but didn't strike a hog. One of them ran a deer that the other 2 turned down, he just ran it about 25o yds and quit. I saw the deer come out of the timber and cross the corner of a field back into some more timber, a while later the one that had ran the deer was coming back in to the truck and crossed the track where it had went back in the timber he got lit up immediately so even no hog was still a training opportunity.
Went today and took 2 of them They struck 500 down the creek and trailed around, the other dogs got to them and after a while they got jumped and ran about 15 minutes before baying, we drove around the section and they were bayed 100 yds off the road, had a small boar of real good kind backed up in a ditch that fed a pond, marked him and he escaped.

I should be hunting them more but there is still lots of ice on the water, they were crossing on top of the ice still today on the deep still holes with some shade.

That ice is scary stuff. Sure sounds like those pups have the want to.

Them boar hogs are sure slippery this time of year. Young dogs are doing their job it sound like. I always feel like I do all the good just taking one or 2 young dogs. You can really pay attention to them that way and slow things down for them.

That seems to be a good litter, their mate that belongs to Adam was on the hunt yesterday.  She had not been on a hog, and she put in, made the race and was bayed hard. The 4 I have are doing good, one in Alabama is running ahead of the old dogs and baying well, there is one up west of Tulsa that is striking and running her own hog as well.  Anxious to see how they mature.

I had two of my knuckleheads go thru the ice last week in a slough, a little sketchy but they got out of it. It’s melted off here now thank goodness

I was surprised to see ice still on the other day but all the big holes were solid covered and I saw the dogs walk on it several times. A few years ago after the worst cold spell I can ever remember it warmed up and we went hunting and caught a hog, Adam's old dog went on and got bayed in the next section, when I arrived he had a shoat on the bank of a beaver pond that shoat trotted out in the middle with the dog after him the hog fell through and was under the ice the dog fell in with him but didn't go under the ice, but was having trouble getting back up on top. I was sure dreading getting wet but after a couple of minutes he did get up out of the hole.  When Adam showed up I told him you may have to go get him, he said I think he'll get out haha.

Good hunt for the young dogs. The only ice I want to be around is in my Tea in a couple of months.

Oldman, a few years ago we were on a boar hog that launched off the creek bank out into the creek. It was iced over and he busted it when he hit in the middle. The problem was it was too thick for him to be able to swim into and break and the creek banks were too steep to climb on either side to get out. I put ole Vegas on a couple of leads and was gonna let him ear the hog and fish them both out. Well the roots I was holding onto broke and all 3 of us ended up  in the hole together. I got the hog in one hand and the leads in the other and handed both to my warm dry buddies. As soon as I got out I was headed for a heater and dry clothes!

t-dog that was a rough day, could have been dangerous for you as well depending on how far you were from the truck.

Clue, he was whipped by the time he got out of the water. It's a good thing we weren't far from some heat.
