Well I first seen this story off of JugHead007's website-The HogBiz site-didn't know how many people are had seen it so I figured I would pass the story on. I looked it up and it seems this guy killed this boar in North Mobile County, Alabama with a 30-06. There is one pic of the ears that if you look I swear it has notches in it just like show pigs. Anybody else see this?

I saw the notches in the ear to, not around show pigs, but I couldn't tell if it was someone's mark maybe, just a torn ear, or a notch from a tag. The hog is big thats for sure. I'm sure it will turn into another hogzilla type deal. I just figured to post on here and see what everyone thought.

ive raised show pigs for a couple of yrs and those r definitly show hog markings. it also looks almost like a purebred duroc.

Either way you slice it-domestic, wild, domestic that went wild, show pig, or whatever-he was a handful to load up. Brings me to my next question. Most people hunt out there just to hunt and help solve the pig problem, but how many people actually try and introduce better blood to the hog population. Say breeding a Hampshire, Yorkshire, Duroc or any other meat hog to two or three sows that you caught, and then letting em back go. This probably can't be done except on high fence ranches or leases that want hogs. Just a question. It would make for a better hog I would think, but that's my just my opinion.

a man here in the hill country bought 30 duroc sows and put on his place for "better breeding" of wild hogs, what he got was the same hog in looks as for as build and size as the wild ones he already had just more red ones.

It seems to me people have the best luck when introducing listed hogs or Hampshire blood. Large bodied hogs that tend to run less. This is nothing more then an observation, not fact.

Can't tell but if ur ever tryin to tell if a hog was born an d raised in the wild or if a little domestic pig raised in captivity

wild-teeth are very close together and next to know gaps

I can,t help but wonder why they are always burying the world record hogs before credible people can take measurements.And he could certainely pass for someones stud boar that got out.

I agree, with a hog that big, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out if you want it accredited then you're gonna have to have some proof. I think a couple of piney wood rooter sows crossed over a good hampshire boar would make some good pigs. Especially if you catch one or two young and bar them, you might get some big ol hogs outta the deal, good meat and good cutters.

There's lot's of folks around that bring in some "good blooded" hogs... the problem is, there's so many hog hunters out there that they all get caught, trapped or shot first.  It's survival of the fittest... and it doesn't take too long for that "good blood" to get weeded out. But it's sure fun while it lasts. |
