Just curious if anyone knows of anyone who breeds old southern white bulldogs here in south Texas.  Just puttin out some feelers to see whats out there.  Been checkin up on'em and might be interested in giving one a try.  I would like to stay as close to old lines of dogs as possible.  Thanks fellas, and ladies.

Not sure if they are even around anymore, but Scott Pugh has some close lines.  www.yellowhammerkennels.com, I think that is the web address.

As Joey said, I have a few that some would consider old style or mostly old style dogs (I have a few friends with them as well). I think now days when you see OSW on the www. 99% of the time it's just a marketing tool.

Anything I can help you with, let me know.

Very true...one "breeder" and osw "expert" (who is incedentally from New Jersey and does not catch w/ his dogs is an OSW "expert"   and who toots his own horn about the OSW dogs go back to dogs w/ no know heritage or fake peds, but yet his are the "best" of the osw dogs but when others have them w/ documented history and pedigrees (not reg. dogs)that really do work they don't fit his description of a OSW when in fact it is no different.

It also depends on what you call an OSW,I have on I consider a OSW/or OSW type as well as have had some,Cliffords dad was a stright outa the woods OSW,well he was actuall caled a white english.

I honestly don't know much about AB lines and such, but when I bought Tim Nichol's two catch dogs a couple years ago (Zeus & Ruby) I started doing a little research on Ruby.  She is a double registered AB out of Joshua's Kennels in Georgia.  She is a daughter to Joshua's Ole' Southern White.

She was (and still is occasionally...semi-retired) a fine catchdog who belongs now to a hunting partner of mine.  I also have met several other people along the way here in Texas that have dogs from Joshua's that are fine catchdogs.

Here's a couple pics of Ruby

Most all of the Joshua dogs are down from hybrids. I'd be real selective and do plenty of research before getting a dog from Lem. I'd say that he is one of the 2 or 3 (if not the) most marketed kennel in the non-Johnson AB world.

The reference to NJ must be hog hammer, white knight abs? Tested those personally and a catahoula has more heart and bite! Smiley. If you can find the Stouts in the Sand Valley Mts of Alabama they may be able to help u find a pure osw. Maybe!

Yea Joey, that be who I was talkin bout....A yankee expet on southern things LMAO  I have also seen some of his dogs get wooped pretty bad at M. Allisons too. NOT the dogs for me. And yep, I too have had some cats who were better catch dogs than them Jersey dogs.

I was buying dogs from Hines before Jersey boy ever had a bulldog.

Bryant, from what I have heard Ruby was a good, solid catch dog but I think Zues was part Dogo.

Brlsn, does that dog posted have any k-9's?

I was only talking about Ruby.  Zeus is not related, and the two don't compare in my opinion.  I know the kennel from which Zeus hails. Wink

He (WK)is just smoke and mirrors....would you buy a bay/find dog from say...New york or Boston? you see what I am sayin? a "catch dog" breeder were there are no hogs.....What you are looking for can be found in the area you want from real working dogs.

Scott,

I believe Lem Millers favorite dog, Cowboy, was in fact a hybrid and he made a point to make that known.  As far as his other stuff I never knew much about.  My first bully dog was crossed with some OSW from Mr. Stout and he was a catching machine, but died like the rest of them.  HEAT STROKE!!!

Sketchy don't begin to describe that guy.

There are dogs that are representative of what you want in South Texas. As I said, anything I can do to help, let me know. By the way, I'm just east of San Antonio.

Joey, I've looked at quite a few of those pedigrees of Lem's dogs...plenty of hybrid blood in there.
