Myself, Darrell, Bump and our two boys met up yesterday morning to make a round.  Plans were up in the air because I was having trouble reaching the landower of the place I wanted to hunt.  He has told me to go anytime, but I've always made a habit of calling before I go anywhere and just didn't feel right when I couldn't reach him.  We decided to meet in the area and perhaps hunt a smaller place down the road in hopes I could catch him later in the morning.

We met up and decided to hit a small place we call the "swamp".  The swamp will always give up a hog or two, but the price is always gonna be your dry clothes.  This morning was no exception.  Our dogs hit the ground, and within a short time we had a solid bay about 400 yards out.  We waded the creek, crossed the slough and busted through the tall stalks to find the dogs whipping a pretty decent boar at water's edge.  It was a chore, but we got him killed and quickly leashed the dogs before they had a chance to roll further.

We got back to the wheelers and complained (but laughed because we knew it was inevitable) how wet and cold we were.  Decided to go back to the trucks, change into the dry clothes we brought, and try to reach the other owner.  FINALLY I was able to make contact and so we went down the road.

We again dropped the dogs on another usually productive block of woods and they rolled about 500 yards and we immediately heard squealing.  Not a single dog bark, so we figured it was small.  Braydon (my son) had been begging me to let him get his first stick, so I figured what better an opportunity.  He took care of business like a seasoned pro.  After a few pics, a quick check of the Garmin showed the dogs were rolling towards the river (which has been swift) and were already 3/4 mile out.  We decided to quickly make our way towards them, and finally was able to find them on the riverbank.  One of my dogs had crossed, and was standing on the other side.  LUCKILY, I was able to call him back.  I still had one gyp out a little over two miles another direction and I figured I had better go cut her off as she was hunting out towards a highway.  Using the Garmin, I was able to get right to her and get her picked up.

When I got back to Bump, his crew had another sow down and I was able to cut backstraps for the grill!

Total for the trip was three hogs.  The weather was nice, and the boys had a great time stomping around.  Here's a few pics, and a short video of the "swamp"!

It was a fun hunt and the boys had a good time. The videos didnt turn out the best because I had my boy running the camera...but I'll get him straightened out.  Wink

The third boy in the picture was a landowner's son who met up with us on the second turn out. The best part of the whole hunt was when we went in to the shoat and Jack is carrying that  BB gun....Bryant has the shoat. Jack sees the shoat and says..."Wild hog Daddy...wild hog...get back I'm going to shoot him."

Good times!

Made me nervous as heck as I had seen John pumping up that gun a little earlier.  Nothing would have ruined my hunt faster than a five year old putting a pellet in my arm.

Kids will be kids and all that good stuff but I can tell you now I would have gotten my a$$ handed to me for having that bb gun pointed at anything but the ground or something I wanted to kill....much less a guy with a camera.  Never too young to learn the right way to do something IMO...

I will follow that up by saying good hunt and good job getting the kids out in the woods, the other young men there look like they are ready to fly solo...

Oh....that just kept you on your toes  Grin

I saw John shoot it into the ground before he handed to him.

He was learning....his dad was letting him know. I was taking the picture and found it quite comical.  laugh
