It is not that hard to train a dog to do what ever you want him to do it just takes time and consistancy. I am not saying it is easy and some dogs take much more work but it can be done. I am working on one right now. Pulo (pit X cur) I recieved from Krystal. He does what you are talking about. He is a solid catch dog but when he heres a bay he is going crazy snarling and pulling on the lead. Where I messed up is the first time he did this. I allowed it. because I was also excited about the bay and him catching his first boar but Now it is taking much more time and energy to correct the problem, but it will be done. I think it is a lazy and horrible idea to cut out the voice box out of a dog. Plus how would the dog comunicate with you.

I would imagine a dog could learn sign language> But their are barkless dogs that are a breed. They seem to fair well. With GPS I think it would be easy to stay up with the dogs now.

Debarking a dog does not make them silent. They usually don't remove the vocal chords, they are an integral part of the dog's throat and taking them out could lead to more serious issues, they merely cut or puncture them. The dog can still whine, that noise is partially produced in the nasal passage, and they will just end up rasping and sort of yodeling instead of full on barking.
The only way to get a truly silent bulldog is to put a handle on them. I can see people debarking as a last resort before putting a dog down in the city, but it certainly shouldn't be an easy out for laziness. It really amazes me when people want to hunt with dogs but don't want to put any work into training. If you want something easy, predictable and without a personality, get a gun.

The dog I referred to could not make any knid of sound. No whinning or barking. Not even a whimper came out of her mouth.
