A friend told me he was hunting on Thursday morning, so I emailed the boss and told him and he luckily said OK. We headed out with his dogs and after much walking his main dog raised her head and jumped into the brush. A few seconds later we heard the hog and let the cd go....caught hog
He asked if I wanted it and I said "hell yea" grabbed the hind leg (just like on 100s of vids) and slid my buck knife in all the way and then down a few inches. Blood/heart/lungs exploded out of the huge gash! It was effin awesome!

It was only a small sow, but still I'm really happy to have got my 1st hunt done after just being able to read and learn from the boards for so long. Now I keep thinking about my next hunt.
Some of yall might have seen my other post where I offered a pup from my pet boxer and a bmc gyp in exchange for allowing me to tag along on a hunt to gain experience. A few of yall have offered but unfortunatley we have not been able to hook up on a hunt yet.

Out of the 14 pups my dog had, I have decided to keep two dogs as my "pack" and bring them along when I go with others. Pics of the pups can be found at the link below.
What can I do at this stage in their life as training? I gave them the hog feet for them to chew on and get the smell of a hog early on.
Is there anything you guys do?
Ive heard of people trailing some hog meat in the yard and then letting the pups find it...
let me know what yall do if anything,  or is it all instinct on the dogs?

Mav and Mike are right my friend you have a monkey on your back now that you will never be able to shake off.Hog hunting with dogs is REDNECK CRACK COCAINE,you just cant quit.I have had rabbit dogs, coon dogs and deer dogs but nothing beats the adrenalin rush like hogdoggin, especially when you get on a big nasty one.I am way over do but plan on taking care of that next weekend.

If you stay in it , One day soon you'll be in the middle of a swamp soaking wet in the middle of the night and have to go to work the next morning and you'll say to yourself what the hell am I doin? This aint fun. Then you'll get home from work and go again the next night..

It's hard getting started, getting good dog, good places to hunt.
But once you get that, there is no turning back.
Ive said to myself so many times that I am done with this and just about to give up when you are wet, waiting on dogs and out of beer!
You just cant stay away from it though.

Getting out of the gate was never a problem, Dexter.  Getting your arse to wake up, get the heck out of my truck and go home was usually more the issue!

Those were the days...
