Ross came for the weekend to hunt and train on some pups, we had a great time. Hunted Friday night at Matador, Wes came with us. We road-ed around for a while and were not finding any hogs so we headed for town to get some food. As we were leaving I saw a good sounder in my neighbors wheat field just north of my place, I sent Adora to them first and the other boys sent Jasper and some more curs and then some pups, trying to catch a few out of the group. Adora caught up to the running sounder, ran by the little stuff and caught the biggest sow on the run, Jasper got there to help hold and the other dogs piled on after crunching some shoats. That was the first time Ross has gotten to see Adora work and he called her the "Great White Whale" for the rest of the weekend.

We went to town and got some food and headed back. A nice boar ran in front of the truck and I sent Adora, Jasper and two of Wes's curs for what I hoped would be a quick catch. Well Adora stretched a high-tensile hot wire and then the boar got through a tight barb wire fence and that was all the head start he needed. I called Wes at the truck and told him to send me Smoke and my two pups, and then he better start driving. Ross and I ran and ran and listened and changed direction several times during this race. We had two tracks going as it turned out, but Adora and Jasper finally got the big boar stopped with the help on Wes's Boots dog. They were caught about a mile from where we started and were 1/2 mile from where Ross and I were in the pasture, so we ran in as fast as we could. Had some dogs cut I could tell, Ross legged the boar and I stuck him. I grabbed Jasper quick and he broke right off, took a couple steps back and just collapsed. He was bleeding out the leg hole of his vest and the sleeves had been ripped off. Ross got Adora broke off and tied up and we both were going over Jasper, I striped his vest and checked him over real well. He had a couple cuts at the elbow and leg that were bleeding bad and he had taken some hard hits to the chest, but was suffering from total exhaustion. I covered him with his vest and laid down beside him to keep him warm while Ross and Wes took the rest of the dogs to the truck. They came back for me and Jasper thinking we might need to carry Jasper out of the pasture, but he was able to stand and walked out under his own power. I was pretty worried about my old partner Jasper but he will be fine.

Ross brought some young dogs to work that are going to really make some rice rough dogs when the get grown. They were sure gritty and good looking to boot.

Ross is also the new proud owner of "Crazy Alice" one of my good young Catahoula females, by AJ out of Connie, hope they get along good.

The funniest part of the weekend was when we got home after the Friday night hunt and Ross pulled off his boots and he had 2 or 3 big holes in both socks. He said I had run the socks right of his feet on that hunt, and he was Tired.

Thanks for coming up to hunt Ross, had a great time.

Dang Paul that sounds like an EXCELLENT hunt.  I would have LOVED to have seen Adora run down them hogs like that.  Me and some friends of mine saw Her mamma do the same exact thing a few years ago.  Jane ran past a whole sounder to the hog in the front , which was the biggest one in the group , and caught it.  Pretty awsome to get to see that.

I would have just had to let you do all that running.  Im kinda like that old bull talking to the young bull. . . . .   Wink  LOL

"Silverton" laying beside your dog to keep him warm says alot about your character. My buddies made fun of me the other night after my RCD got cut up because I was so concerned about him. Our dogs put forth alot of effort for us. How can someone not be so kind to their dogs.

Marvin, it was a good night, after that last long run and catch she was not even winded, Ross lead her to the truck and had a hard time just holding on, she was ready to find another one.

Buddylee, Jasper and I have been through a lot together, and there is NOTHING that I would not do for him, and it would take a pretty big old boy to give me any flack about it, if you know what I mean. Wink

Good hunt, you and I would do the same for Jasper, that old man has saved both our arzzez many a time.
Some don't understand it, but a lot on here have dogs they'd do that for.
Good ol' Jasper! Exhaustion is the only thing that ever gets him down.
Funny how some seem to make blood faster than it can come out, that shows the amount of heart in the good ones. Wink

Slim you have been in some bad spots with Jasper I know, and taken care of him as if he were your own, Thanks from both of us......and I do believe you are the only person that I have ever trusted to hunt Jasper without me being there, so any of y'all that don't know Slim and his wife, that should tell you everything you need to know......
