What r the advantages of hunting witha dogo cd instead of a pit cd cause I want to go hunting with my friend after deer season is done and he does not have a cd at all only a sd and since pits are lighter than dogos i want to get a dog that can tangle and hold a the baddest hog by its self with the sd ofcourse

There's more to be said for the fight that's in the dog vs. the dog that's in the fight.
More a personal preference...good and bad in both.
(and I'll throw in a little personal bias...don't discount the AB)

Justin doesn't like any of the dogos he's hunted with. We have an AB and that's what he likes. It would depend more on the individual dog and their personalities really

Seems they have a lot of AB owners out there. My question, why do ya'll prefer an AB over a pit?

I can't speak for "ya'll", but for me personally that's a simple question....temperament.

I think everyone is right about personal preference and/or style of hunting. I have hunted with pits, AB, and currently working on a pit/dogo cross, have seen great dogs from each, but I personally like the pits, just got spoiled by my pit "Red" I guess.

What do you want out of the dog? All of the breeds mentioned, along with the crosses, are capable of being great catch dogs.
In general, $ for $.......Pit. They'll catch and they're cheap, and easy to get.
For me, and I am completely biased. Dogos are all I use(I am not a hunter, just an Dogo enthusiast), and want. I expect my Dogos to be put on the ground and find and catch their own hogs.

That is all part of the game. A catchdog reguardless of breed is going to cut or possibly killed on a hog. Yes some are smarter in their style of catching but that is mostly dog to dog, not the breed.

Very true but I need a dog that can hold a pig down until the sd or I get there keep this in mind the scenario is 1sd 1 cd and a big hog I also. Hear that alot of y'all have pits with a whole lot of heart but if I get a pit that does not have as much heart as y'alls I don't wAnt to have a dog die I lookin for some thing that has enough power weight and strenth to go after any hog and that wii get along well with my family and strangers I am not sayin pit aren't good dogs around kids Pluse my parents are not hunters atall and there those kinds of people who don't like pits and think that all of them are evil

You cant judge a dog by its breed.....each is an individual and will perform as such. Even in a litter of pups some in the litter could be as different as night/day. Go with what you like as far as breed goes and then try to find one that performs to what standards you have in mind. If you are looking at a pup then the best you can do is choose based off of parent's performance and pray for the best.

Size is no substitute for heart in a catch dog. It is sometimes nice to have size but the heart is a MUST no matter their size. I have seen a 160lb Mastiff X that people thought was a catch dogs and we ended up having to go back and get my little 40lb pit to close the deal! No matter the size or breed of the dog, IT MUST have the heart! If your first one does not, cull it and get another, and another, and another, until you find the one who will catch and hold till death without a second thought. Anything less may be big and ugly but it aint a catch dog. Steve
