GOT INTO WITH A GUY TODAY AND HE TENDS TO BELIEVE THAT PIG STICKERS NEED TO COME OFF OF MICK DUNDEES DRESSER. I ON THE OTHER HAND BELIEVE A KNIFE WITH A 6" BLADE IS THE PERFECT SIZE.

I have 2 different knives that I carry depending which one i grab at the time.  Didn't realize it till this post came up but both are 6.5" long blades.  Different handles and blade shapes, but never had a problem with either one being too short.

Sooner or later a six inch blade will not get the job done. I had a huge problem one night with a BIG boar, Jasper and a six inch knife....all bad. I have carried a ten inch blade from that night forward, I have never been sorry.

Yeah I'm not sure if it is or not but Paul's knife looks like an army rifle bayonet.  And he's got the draw perfected to look just like a calvary soldier drawing his saber heading into battle  Grin

I hunted alone for many years and it is a battle, isn't it. Kill the hog fast and well.

WWII Bayonett from a M1 Garand, locking, hard scabard. Great Boar knife.

Paul all we need to do now is find you a mcclellan saddle for your mule and recrease your hat and you'd really fit the part  Wink  .  That's the first I've ever seen the bayonet in use and was very impressed how effective it is and quickly it finished the job.

These are the field knives made by GLOCK.  They run about $25-$30 new.  Get the one without the saw-back.  Goes in like hot butter, and you can sharper the top to give a double edge at the tip.  Polymer sheath that keeps knife snapped in place.  6.5" blade.
What I use now.

Wild Boar USA has several knives that are great for sticking.  The Gladius Hunter has a 6" blade that gets great reviews.  We also have Spanish Mauser bayonets.  These bayonets are used military grade and come with steel and composition scabbard. They are 13 1/4" overall length with 8 3/4" carbon steel blades and composition handles. Made to fit the FR7 and FR8 Spanish Mauser. These knives have thick narrow blades that make excellent stabbing weapons. Knives may slightly vary in look and design. USED CONDITION

It's hard to beat a Buck 119. Reasonably priced if you lose it, and goes in like it's a hot knife through butter.

6" blade length

The first knife I ever use was a Buck. Shortly after that I bought a Buck 119 for the thicker blade. Thru the years I have tried different knives but alway came back to the 119.

It makes a difference to keep your sticking knife shart. Have never needed any thing more than 6".

I used a 6.5 in sog forever with no issues, now I have a 7.5 in sog and it has only been needed once but why not prepare ahead of time, it may take 5 - 10 yrs before you were glad you had the extra help but better than a horror story, or dead dog.
