Every year I try to organize, or assist with, at least one youth hunt. This year my hunt will be a youth hog hunt for first time archers. I do not know if anyone else on here feels compelled to get kids, especially the less fortunate, into the woods but this seems like it may be a good opportunity for someone with the resources close to Dallas. http://discussions.texasbowhunter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=120735Steve

I bet this would do better in another section huh?
Should I re-post or would you rather move it with admin controls?

Steve,
I own some land in Centerville, a couple hours south of Dallas. Between my place and the neighbors, I have access to ~3,000 acres with plenty of creeks and hardwoods for squirrel hunting. I sure don't mind having them out.
Any idea if these kids need lodging, etc? Day hunt, weekend hunt? Would they like to camp out? Do they need guns to be provided?
If they have some fishing poles, we can put them on plenty of catfish and bass too.
Anyone know when squirrel season is in Leon county?

Bryant and Matt,
Better get to tuning on your tree dogs... I spoke with Ken, and we have a tentative date set for the weekend of January 16th.
Fishing, tree dogs, and hog dogging.
The kids will camp out Friday and Saturday night, have a fishing contest Saturday am from 9:00 to noon, then gun safety, then some target shooting...then we're off to the woods.
Something neat that this group requires, is that each kid and chaperon on the hunt will give one hour of their time during the weekend to do chores for the landowner. Clearing fence line, setting up deer feeders, picking up branches, etc...

Sounds good, did they tell you how many people? Do they provide transportation? What age group are they? Are they going to sleep in tents? Sounds like it will be a fun time.

Should be between 5 and 9 people, including a few adults. I don't know if they bring any buggies or not, but we can walk hunt the creek, or take mules and trucks to the place on hwy 7, if we decide to hunt there. Age group, I will know more tomorrow, their site says ages 8-20,from my phone conversation, I gathered they will be closer to the 10-12 year old range. They will sleep in tents. Maybe Mandi can try a dutch oven recipe on them.

Good deal Chris. Glad to hear it.
I can't guarantee it now but if, when it comes time, I can make it out to help, I will. Same goes for the Wounded Warrior hunt. If nothing else, I should be able to deliver the stone from Dripping Springs for you.
Thanks a bunch for stepping up.

Hunt has been postponed until mid March. Weather forecast this weekend looks to be cold and wet, and we thought it might not be the best weekend to get kids hooked on the outdoors.
