Dang guys it looks like you guys are up North!  We have been under 2 feet for about a week now.  Hunting in the snow can be fun as long as it doesnt get too deep....No mistakin where the hogs have been.

They're saying 8 inches here but 40 mph sustained winds. Were snowed in, not that I'd want to be Luton the highway, but I'm going crazy and I think jls41 is gonna kill me. Apparently I'm annoying when I'm bored and snowed in the house. Got a bunch of good pics of the 5 foot snow drifts. I'll get them posted when I can get to the office to download them.

About 35 years ago, I went hunting alone without checking the weather.  It was hill country and I had not hunted in that direction before, and it was wilderness, no trails other than game trails  and no  roads.  It had not snowed there in 10 years.  My green dogs, 2 curs,  ran a deer back in about 5 miles and bayed it up!  It was a big buck with a good rack.  I had turned my catch dog in from a distance, not knowing it was a deer (all I heard was baying, never bayed up a deer before!).  It started snowing real bad.  I got real panicked as you could not tell which way I had come.  I was not dressed for cold, no gloves and just had on an un-lined Levi jacket, plus I was soaked through from sweat as I just ran off and on over 5 miles.  The catch dog was a good, smart female.  She saw the deer and just sat there and watched the fool curs bay.  She would do the same when dogs bayed cows.  I shot my .44 mag at the feet of the two dogs and yelled them off.  The buck took off.  I caught the two idiots and beat the heck out of them.  Then I looked around and knew I was in deep trouble.  The snow was now 6" deep, the trees were covered and you could only see about 100 feet.  No way I could find my trail back.  I kept the two trashy curs on lease to keep them from taking off after the buck again.  I was thinking if I had to, I would eat one.  And I wanted to keep them close, as it was definitely going to be a at least a 2-dog night.  I told the catch dog Dixie, lets go home.  I was shocked and pleased when she put her nose to the snow and led me back to the truck through the snow, sometimes through drifts 12-18 inches deep, over a 5-mile span.  Pitt bulls have as good a nose as any dog, they just choose when they use it!
