As some of you have probly seen on the for sale section, I am looking for some dogs to get back into hog hunting.  But my question is...

Everyone describes their dogs hunting range as close, med, and far?  Thats great and all but in reality how far is each one of them?

How many yards will a far range dog go?  The same with close and Med. Yalls help is always appreciated.

Thats a question each individual should be able to answer on the individual dog, especially if they have a Garmin. However for you to ask the majority, and then expect the individuals dogs to be on the same "range" as everybody elses is only going to be disappointing you in the long run. I am saying I would not put too much stock into the "short, nedium, long" as being the total answer. Ask the same question to every single person you talk too.

close range dog hunts in eye sight until it hits sign that it can smell . med range dog  checks in every 15 to 30 minutes. long range dog you go find him bayed some where  now this is just casting a dog with out hog sign . now when you are in hog sign that a dog can smell they all should be long range. that is just mine opinon

My opinion is that close rage dogs are 300yds or less and very busy checking every bush and tree like a lacy, my prefeence is medium which is what i consider my dogs 300 to 1,000yds....I personally dont like when my dogs get long ranged which is in my opinion is when they get out over a mile in no time.....to each his own but long range is long nights and we seem to catch alot of hogs undr .5 mi.

Here's another thread discussing range but like mentioned earlier it would be a great question to ask the owner of the particular dog being described. http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/index.php?topic=6764.0
