Anyone know what this is? They re-paved the highway a while back and replanted this along the shoulder. It's about knee-high and has a seed cluster on top. I've seen 10 dead hogs, hit by cars, in the past week. I've also seen seven big hogs grazing in it the past two nights.

Man Mike that looks just like wheat to me.  When winter wheat heads out and is left standing that is exactly what it looks like.  I would bet the farm on it.

Some pics I found

I bet they were thinking about the fact that it would re-seed and insure an established grass in the ditch to prevent erosion.....BAD IDEA!!  Like txboardog mentioned, they just planted a non-native wildlife attractant along the side of a very rural high-speed road in the woods.  All this makes for is a recipe for disaster.  I imagine that anytime now you will start to see dead deer on the side of the same road as does start looking for extra food so they can take care of their little ones.  I bet they will be by to mow it soon too, which means next year you will just have a better crop  Grin

This about a 15 to 20 foot shoulder on both sides of a 22 mile stretch of highway.

We were talking about all the hogs at the local store this evening and I had two people wanting me to come help them with their new hog problem. Grin
