Went out this morning around 11 am to the same spot we got 3 last weekend and where the HUGE boar that wrecked Dee's catchdog Big 'Un roams.  It was our usual crew of me, Grant, Dee and Joe, Grant's friend Bob Cox also came down to join the hunt.  All our dogs were standing around acting like potlickers as usual, and Grant's superdog Ben was out the whole time doing his magic. After about an hour or maybe two, the Garmin showed Ben bayed about 800 yards away, we started going to him and didnt even hear him actually barking until we were pretty close (man I love my Garmin!), the other dogs finally heard him too and helped bay up.  We send in PPC Eloy and Joes AB Bella, they had him anchored down on both ears.  He had some big ol meat hooks on him. He looked every bit of 380-400#s and his ears showed signs that he may have been dogged before. It was not the same big boar that put a hurting on Big 'Un, but he wasn't too much smaller. Grant got a lil video and of course we had to get some pics.  Ben got a good poke on the leg and we all got a little worried but he will probably only be out a month and should be okay.  Grin Grin Grin A few other dogs got a couple minor pokes and gashes but nothing serious... pretty lucky considering the sharp daggers this big boy had on him. Definitely a great start to the New Year for our crew!

Now thats a goodun right there boys. I never thought I would say this but I believe hog hunting is taking a toll on old Grant, he is the roughest lookin fella in that motley lookin crew.

Now thats a goodun right there boys. I never thought I would say this but I believe hog hunting is taking a toll on old Grant, he is the roughest lookin fella in that motley lookin crew.

These pics were being shot a few minutes after I had Ben tied to a cedar and saw his leg muscle hanging out, an artery beeting like the heart and his bone for about 3 inches of his leg....I had alot on my mind! I just kept thinking of De's ridgeback that had a similiar injury that retired him, I am pulling for the Rowdy and ruby comeback story  Wink
I took him to the emergency vet (only 1 open on sunday), worried about my pocket book and the bunny huggers. I was greeted by a young man with died hair, an eye brow ring, and a funny "lisp"  Angry --he soon realized our conversation was done and got the vet. I explained I was not worried about Ben dying, this wasn't our first rodeo, but simply him hunting again, so to check the tendons etc. He came back and said no tendons were cut, there is a possibly joint damage but he couldnt tell or do anything for it, and it would cost $750 to sew him up with a drain tube in it. He was real cool, I told him I could handle it paid the $90 office visit and he gave me the drain tube under the table. Went home, vinny held him after the rompum kicked in put a few staples in, left the bottom open to drain and will keep the wound clean and cut heel on it....Only time will tell but i hope he hunts again My gut says he will!

Mason lets go sometime this wk, did you get any on the river? Thanks again for letting me come work the pups it was fun my back muscles are still sour like a worked out my lats from pulling them out of the pen  Shocked I need to get back in fighting shape! Carrying Ben on my shoulders back to the truck didnt help my traps any!  Undecided I need some cheese with my wine.

Yes he was there you can see him in the video. He acts like a puppy, but he knows what a bay is and gets to it quick and gets gritty, fast little guy but not striking his own hogs. With the dogs he is hunted with it will probably take him some time to pass them up.

Thank you De, time for blue and hunter to step up!! I think the odds are with him, a wk or two will tell me alot, I am keeping the would packed with my voodo stuff, regular antibiotics etc. At least it was a trophy boar, in 2 mo it will probably just be another story as he burns up the woods. I pray  angel
