I've been meaning to get this on here for several days and finally got around to it. I took two jagds, my oldest Tonka (21 months) and my youngest Jester (11 months). Jester did a little extra curricular hunting and bayed a big ol' loggerhead turtle in the creek as well as treed a coon, but was quick to go to Tonka when she found this 172 lb boar. They both did a fine job of baying while I slipped in and vaccinated him with a lethal dose of lead poison. --John  |

good job john, how is that brindle dog doing ?i think that flood we got washed all our hogs down the sabine river cuase i can't find them lately!!i think i am going to move back to texas!! lol

Thanks guys. Not real sure what's going on right now, hogs and hog sign have been hard to come by. I have seen them seem to vanish for a while only to return thicker than ever, so maybe hunting will be better when I get back home in June. They did this same thing this time last year. I've just got to figure out where they are going, and get permission to hunt there.

Hula is coming along fine. I have just had to start hunting one young dog at a time with my best dog Tonka due to the lack of sign. As long as there is plenty sign for them to key on and check out, they hunt well and stay focused, but when you walk for an hour and don't cross a track or see any rooting at all; these young dogs started playing with each other rather than hunting. One pup + Tonka at a time fixed that problem. I'll start running them together again after they have gained a little more age and experience.
We did get into a sow with a bunch of 40/50 pounders the last time I had three dogs on the ground, but each dog left out with a different hog and none of them got one shut down.
I need to get Hula some pen time, and I think her switch will really flip. She's been in on several bays and bays well, but I need her to figure out that she can catch those smaller ones on her own. We'll get there, we're still young and learning. --John
