I'm very disappointed in the Monster Quest episode.

They completely cut out the dog hunting all together and any hunting. They were more worried about the harness falling off and not harming the hog, Angry

That's really sad becuase it was the best video footage we have ever gotten!

Mike,
This will be 4 or 5 weeks long and I think the interview with me and the hunt will be in the next week or so.
I'm looking forward to it.

Mr. Mason, it wish that were true, but this is the one and only episode. It replays several times, but the next new one is about vampires or something.

Yep, we were lookin' forward to it. The wife got bored and ticked off after about 30 minutes and no dogs. She got up and went to doing something else. I thought for sure they'd at least have used the last 10 minutes to show the hunt footage. Huh?

I hear ya Mike.  I was sitting in the living room watching the show thinking the same thing.  These sissies are so worried about the antis that won't even mention the word hunting much less show it.  Piss on monster quest....

Lets dump 500 lbs corn in the biggest trap we can find, show a couple still pics of big hogs, and call it a show. Angry

I agree they picked some real winners?!?! to put on there instead of yall.  Lets see they had the self procliamed god of hog hunting, Mr. Texas boars himself, some nuckle head that was trying to cripple his horse just for a good camera shot, and a guy that thought he killed a 700 lb hog because he bottomed out a 300 lb scale two times. lol  Kind of made me cringe seing those kinds of people represent us hog hunters.  Forget about hunting footage, peta is gonna have a hay day with that horse falling down footage, that they showed twice no less.  The only good part was when they blew the wistle on that guy with the domestic hog and the one who was exagerating about the weight.  Just goes to show you that tv is a load of mess most about all of the time.  Even when that have something real to show you they dont use it.

I guess seeing a horse fall down a hill is more important than watching Clifford catch a hog.  WHAT A WASTE!!!

just an fyi to add on i emailed the outdoor channel and the vs channel about a hog hunting show. they gave me a long email back saying that they won't do one because of the high percentage of dogs that get hurt. and they fact that most of the time the hog gets torn ears and such. they said while they would like to put on a show like that, but the amount of blood and the damage that usually occurs to the hogs and dogs they don't want to make a show like that.....sad sad sad...

I am just as disappointed as you are Mike.  All the close-up shots of hogs were from my European stock in my brood pens.....I gave a long interview on the WWT record book and told them what realistic weights of trophy boars were.  I guess they wanted to make a production than rather know the truth about what a real "monster boar" looked like.....I don't know about ya'll, but they promised me my interview to be included along with a plug for my website.....Guess when I signed that waiver they coulda promised me a million $$$ and I wouldn't get a cent if it wasn't on that piece of paper......NEXT TIME, I'll be sure to include their "promises" in that little contract and make sure I get a copy when I sign it.....that way you can hold them to their promises legally.........They basically told us what we wanted to hear to get what they wanted and then left us hanging........some people! Angry

The show was a flop in my opinion......the video think worked for a hundred yards and didn't even show one other pig and nothing even remotely big was photograped.....The only monster hog was computer generated...... :Smiley

Very good responses to this!! I didnt want to just come out and say it but with all those scents and corn and such that was used and if u noticed it was said that "it keeps the hogs in the area" next day they were gone. It shows that hogs are probaly the smartes wild game out there. And the best way to catch monster hog is with the the dogs and plus it woulda been better footage watching mike chase sean and matt in the woods only to see matt dissapear. LOL Grin. I was rooting for u guys and looking foward to seeing clifford again.

I am going to email them and tell them what a dissapointment that was!!!! Angry

Cody, I feel the same way as you do.  I have already sent numerous emails back and forth with guys who filmed our hunt letting them know that I am a little confused as to what happened.  We were told, like you, that we would be in the episode and they never showed a single second of the footage we got that day.  I went on to let him know that I did not agree with how the show was edited into its final production.  I know this is not the film crews fault but the fault of the producers at he History Channel.  I did tell him though that it is a little frustrating from a "business" standpoint to advertise that you will be on a show only to have everyone watch it and call you and be like "what the F".  I would rather have had Sean run his camera that morning and get that footage if I had it to over again.  It was an awesome hunt with some once in a lifetime footage and no it just belongs to some production company that will never do a damn thing with it.  I am in the process of trying to get a copy of it from them but they act like it can't even be bought.....really sucks.

It's really a shame........It sems that the bigger the company the more cut-throat they are to work with.......In my dealings with the magazine the small mom-n-pop type folks are much nicer and reliable than the so-called big guys.  Don't get me wrong.....there are some big companies that are trustworthy and great to deal with, but many will tell you what you want to hear until you give them what they want and then kick you to the curb.  It's a shame that decent hard-working folks have to have things in writing and signed with blood to count on them.....what happened to a handshake and a man's word???

I know two guys who work on hunting TV shows.....They both were only allowed 1 hog hunting episode each season and one was not allowed to show dogs at all.......The other could show dogs, but had to blur the footage to distort what was happening....they called it "rock video" effects.......what a crock.......

It's amazing how distorted the portrayal of actual hunting has become on TV.....They want people to think the animal walks out, lays down, and magically turns into sausage and a shoulder mount.........reality check......there's been blood on every successful hunt I've ever been on.....that's REAL!  Thank God there are good folks out there making DVD's that portray reality......
I have inside information that there is in the works a law being written that will protect hunting hogs with dogs.....The big money farmers and ranchers know that hunting with dogs is the most productive means to rid land of hogs and they want to preserve that ability.....lawmakers listen to the big money......FINALLY....someone thinking with logic and not political correctness at the fore-front....

I have seen one episode of Hunting with Tred Barta i which he hunted hogs with dogs and used a knife.  I think it was on the vs channel.  Dont know if anyone else saw that one, it was a while ago.  There was some great footage and Tred really explained how the hogs were a problem and how using dogs is the most efficient way to catch them.  This just goes to show that footage can be aired it is just going to take a true sportsman in the production crew (like Tred Barta).

Yep, Mr Mason took him on that hunt.

Good show, ol' Tred seems a little high strung. Grin
