Try wrong side out and backwards next time, you might catch a truck load.

I discovered that very same thing! Now I just go without them and I catch a ton of hogs!!!    Shocked  Shocked  Shocked    Grin

Seriously though, I have OCD and I used to always put the same tracking collars on the same dogs everytime, and hated to turn them out if they were switched.   Cheesy

Thomas believes it depends on what hat he is wearing that makes the difference in a good hunt or bad luck! When he lost his red hat everything went south for a couple of weeks, and I think my house got turned upside down looking for his dern cap.

I have definately heard of a few crazy beliefs but if it works for you then go for it! I for one have always had an unopened bag of beef jerky in my pack and if  the occasion comes up that I get caught off guard and am invited with a friend I HAVE TO stop by a gas station or store on the way or it will be on my mind! I also always had a can of Vienna Sausage in my pack until I hunted with a friend and up until lunch we hadn't hit a single pig and when we stopped for lunch I got out my can of sausage and my friend swore it was the reason! I still keep a can in my pack but when I run with him I make sure to take it out and he is sure to check that I have no canned goods on me!  laugh Weird but whatevers!

i think everyone has some kinda good luck charm or superstition.
i have a bunch of them, i have to have the same tracking collar on the same dog, i have been using the same knife for 15 years, i never leave a hog in the woods no matter how difficult it is to get out.  i left a hog about 7 or 8 years ago and went for almost a month long dry spell, so never again.

thats the short list i dont want you guys to think im too weird   Grin

I put the same collar on the same dogs too, I have one cut collar that I have run on one dog for nearly three years, have brand new ones but still use that old one.  I don't really like to buy new leads, I make my own and consider them a little lucky.  I still don't like to hunt in rubber boots because it seems like I catch more without them.  I also agree that sometimes if you catch a quick easy one and don't work hard enough for it you will typically have to work hard for nothing later in the hunt.  I am sure I have a few more but I can't tell all my secrets haha

We always seem to have better luck if we just throw a hunt together. If we make big plans and how were gonna do it, it usually ends up in a bad hunt. Im with you Matt if you catch one straight out of the truck its time to load up and leave. Just haven't figured out how to do that yet! Grin

Well before I go hunt I lay my hat on the bed - close someone's knife that they open - break a mirrior - then walk under the latter!! Then I just know to expect the worst when I hunt!!!LOL

I ALWAYS untie the hogs, I NEVER cut the mule tape off...I have 3' mule tape pieces that have probably been tied on 10-12 hogs each and I still use them. I had an old man tell me once to never cut the tie strings off. I did, got a dog wrecked on the next hunt, so now I untie every hog, no matter how long it takes! I even carry a Leatherman tool in my pack to help me untie them.

I also use the same cut collar and tracking collars on the same dog everytime.

Its funny how we all get these little superstitions without really thinking about them.

Another one I would add is I don't like to turn out on hogs that I can see, seems that I can never catch those hogs  Huh?

Makes me wonder how many hog hunters are wearing women's underwear but just aren't sharing it on this thread! lol
Reference the movie "Bull Durham"

Matt that is about as true as it gets. That situation has almost never worked out for me.  If I see hogs in a field I just drive right on past and try to find some other hogs. Undecided  Actually I prefer to start bedded hogs.  You know because they bed down where they feel safe so they dont have any reason move once the dogs find them.  I'm afraid if they start running they might not stop.  haha.

Back in the day, If the hog did'nt look like it was gonna bay I would try and cut off a race when dogs got behind and shoot the hog.  Now I don't like to shoot running hogs at all, only bayed hogs because I feel like it makes my dogs do thier job.  If I let them feel success from a race......that is all they will want to do.  Only on rare occasion will I shoot a hog in a race like if its gonna cross the river or on to a property I cannot go.

Sounds like yall been watchimg too much baseball or scary movies. Maybe snakebit.Luck? It plays a part alright. But most of what I've experienced is when I create my own luck. My Mama used to yell at me if I brought a hoe in the house. That was bad luck. Black cat crossing the road? People hurt themselves turning around. Yea I guess it was bad luck? All that crap came out of the dark ages. But I'll tell you what else came from it some dang good dogs and their hunting masters. Something we call Dogmen. Breeding and training will bring you more luck than anything else. My opinion
