I was wondering how many here hunt alone with a single dog sometimes? Do you have a dog that will bay alone and give you time to just sneak in and shoot or does everyone use multiple dogs? thanks for the comments

I've got a bull that was run 1 out all his life and has very bad dog aggression so I can't run him with my pack so he only gets run when I get an invite on private property. Good dog but not my style of hunting!

I dont think he is talking about " One Out " dogs. I think he is talking about a single " Bay Dog " . Notice he said sneak in and shoot over .

I started out with one dog and she bayed hogs by herself all the time. And yes you sneek in and see what she got bayed.

That's how I started. One cur dog and a rifle. That then led to multiple curs and a rifle. And that then led to multiple curs and multiple catch dogs. I much prefer the way I do it now but they are all effective methods to kill hogs.

I've got dogs that will find and bay hogs by themselves... I expect them all to be able to. But, I never get to hunt just one... always need young dogs hunted and always hunt with friends who have dogs also.

wadepat2,
Sorry...just noticed your post.
I hunted for many years with only a single dog and rifle. Killed more hogs than you can shake a stick at. A group of us hunting yesterday were having this same discussion. I believe that hunting this way will teach you things that often are overlooked with other methods. For example, being quiet and slow getting to a bay so you can position yourself for a shot. Also being able to understand that broken bays and running hogs aren't always the fault of the hog itself. When I hunted that way, probably 99% of the hogs I shot never left within 50 yards of where the dog struck. He was a very loose baying dog and as a result the hogs seldom ran. I attribute this to the fact he knew how to work a hog and knew how and when to apply just the right amount of pressure. I never owned a tracking system, and can't really recall a time when I needed one. I also walk hunted.
Very effective way of hunting if you have small areas of land with plenty of hogs.

We've hunted one bay dog, most of the time we catch them, so we will have a bulldog on a lead. Seems like most of the time the hogs are less likely to run with only one are two dogs. Friend had a black mouth that could be talked into catching. Caught quite a few hogs with just him. We'd get to the bay and say "get em Jake, get em", he'd grab just long enough for us to jump in. It was tricky, never knew when he was going to let go. He quit catching after taking a bad lick. Can't remember the number, but I believe it was over 100 stitches. My buddy lost him last year. RIP Jake.

If anybody has one that would work for me send me a pm. Thanks Again for all the help. This is a great site with alot of info to bad Im in South Louisiana my 8 year old has been watching all the videos and had me sharpen his knife incase he needs to stick one. I got a litte ahead of myself and thought I had found a dog but it didnt work out. We built the kennel this weekend and he thinks the dog will be here end of the week. He is gonna be some upset when I tell him his dog aint coming. Im sure well find a good one soon enough though. Appreciate the help guys.

My dog Fire from Mr Mason ran and bayed one for over 2 hours last week by himself. He struck on a big boar, and went real deep. My blue dog had came back (he won't get very deep). The hog broke 3 times and Fire got him stopped every time. We finally made it to the bay down in the muddy bayou bottoms, only to have the hog break when the bulldog missed. Fire tried to stop him again, but that hog wasn't looking back. We had ran the same hog a couple of days earlier with a pack of dogs and he never did stop.
