I have the chance to get a like new Wildlife Materials TRX-16s with 2 Magnum collars for $550.00 - Everything associated with this unit is practically brand new, antenna, carrying case, etc.

Question is, I use a Garmin Astro unit now, but after reading some of the post on here about lost dogs, even w/ the Garmin, I am considering using a radio unit also. I am running Jagdterriers, but may be adding a cur/cat cross to the pack shortly which will range out further than the Jags. My question is this, should I invest th emoney in a radio unit to add to the Garmin or is it just overkill?

That seems like a lot of money for that unit and two collars.

There are pros and cons to the Garmin system...and probably best answered by the hunters terrain, hunting style, dogs etc. I have Jagds as well and personally think two radio/gps collars is too much weight on that small of a dog. Especially in the water and being more likely to fatigue.

Have you ever used a radio collar system before? They take some time to really get good at interpreting the beeps properly. if you dont have much experience with them you could easily find yourself walking 180 the opposite direction of where you want to go.

Thanks for the input guys, some good points.

I think I will hold off for now since I didn't think about the weight on such small dogs.
