what do yall do when you bay a big , or small group of hogs?        what if your not using a bulldog, only curs to catch. i figure its one of them deals where you do whatever seems to be a good idea at the time. lol but those of you with experiance on this i would like to hear your thoughts/ stories/suggestions/ what you wish you had done different etc.

                                                                                                        thanks

Well, it can go both ways.

Ideally, your dogs catch one and keep rolling out on the same group and you end up wth a few hogs.

But, sometimes your dogs catch one and the other hogs gang up and start whipping the dogs... we've seen it happen both ways. Grin

I agree with mike, if the dogs catch one most of the time the other hogs will break, then when you catch the hog the dogs SHOULD roll out and find another one from the rally. But if you have a group of big barrs then if they try to catch the others will gang up and start cuttin em down.

One day we had about 5-6 good size sows and about 4-5 shoats bayed in a old clearcut, it had logs and tops layin everywhere, and tall grass. So we got up on a big stump about 20 yards from them waiting on one to break or them to catch one. Then a big boar came in he was about 325, he came in and got in front of the sows and wouldnt let the dogs get close to them. this goes on for about 20 minutes and finally the boar brakes and the dogs go after him and they try and catch him. He WRECKED everything we had. I thought that was neat how that boar came in to protect those sows.

You gotta cut the boars to catch the Barrs.

Clint, that would have been a helluva sight for sure.  If your buddies would have had cut some catch dogs loose you would have had a front row seat to hellacious battle.

both of those woulda worked but we dont use catch dogs, and dont carry guns. IF the dogs dont catch it we try to sneak up on it or rope it,,, so we just had to sit and watch lol  Smiley Smiley
