WHAT DO WE DO??? HELP!!!

Fellow hog hunters, I have a problem! One of the many places that we have to hunt is full of hogs and is one of the places that you will catch 3 to 5 hogs in just a couple of hours. The only problem we have is that this is a big place and on one side a man owns 500 acres and all he does is hunts. He has threatened several of my fellow hunters that he would kill any dog that crossed his fence. They have filled charges on this man and now he knows that he can not shoot any of our dogs and get away with it. So now he even told one of my other fellow hog hunters that he is going to put trapes all down the fence line with hogs in them and set dog trapes all around them. He knows that if the dog is on a hog that he can kill it. We have never been on this mans land but we are worried that a running hog will cross the fence and the dogs will follow and get killed. Does anyone have any suggestions. We quit hunting this ranch because of him and the land owner is mad because he wants all hogs off his land?

That is one tough situation! I Think I would drive the fence line and see if what he says is true. If it is true I would take plenty of pics. I would take a good witness or two also! Most people of this caliber will not take care of the bate animal (feed and water) so go every day and take pics. If he does not tend to the hog in the trap or cage looks to me like your local game warden could help you out. Just remember a picture is worth a thousand words!

I have never caught a hog that was worth one of my dogs life so I agree in not hunting it till something is figured out but at the end of the day the problem is between land owners, they need to get together and settle things out.

I am with Matt on this one. Some properties are not worth the trouble that comes along with them.

The land owners will have to work that one out. Maybe the solution would be to only hunt that place at night therefore you don't take a chance of interupting that mans hunting.

thats def between land owners had that prob long time ago my land owner got it settled pretty quick then you might just have a place thats good as gold you cant hunt

X3  on letting the land owners settle it, me and bob have the same problem now on one of our ranches, the neighbor owns 1200 acres , that is loaded with hogs.   we have permission to hunt all around him.   but he dosent want anyone trespassing at all.. especially no hunting.. 
we have went and talked to the guy and he says stay out,  and a few other choice words..
we are trying to get the land owners together but it has not worked out yet..

just think of it like this, someone has to raise hogs for us to hunt

tell him you have a voodoo doll of him and the first time something happens to one of your dogs, your gonna start stickin needles in him. for real though , in a perfect world a genuine S O B  like that ought to have to game fence his place off, been down this road before, best thing to do is not hunt the place he probablys not worth the headaches or jail time

A friend of mine got caught up in a deal similiar to this several year back, but he did not know the issue between the property owners, and when they struck a running hog that crossed the road and bayed in the tank on the other property, several people opened up with gunfire shooting 4 dogs. Thedog owners were already on the fence line with 911 on the phone while the shots were still being fired. Long story short, several dead dogs, and two wounded, one in the A$$ as it was trying to flee, the law arrived, and said that it would have to be settled in court. The next day the law escourted my friend to the property to retrieve dead dogs out of the water, to get their tracking systems back. The Shooters claimed the dogs  were attacking a calf and they were in fear of their lives. The Grand Jury did not think it was worth trying as a criminal case and my friend decided not to pursue a civil case.

One dog surviving is the infamous Chico dog taht we  pick on sometimes.

If you know they land owner said he will shoot a dog and atleast you know that, That gives you an oppertunity to prevent that from happening.

I would probably just use that property for trapping and not even bring any dogs there. I know in Florida hogs are considered livestock so he has a right to protect them and can shoot your dogs if he wishes, I imagine it's the same in Texas. I had a problem like that before where we had some property and a man owned a tiny piece right next to it and threatened me not to have my dogs on it and called the game warden a couple times but as long as I didn't step foot on it myself I was not at fault. So I just hunted my property at night or during the weeks I knew the man wasn't in town. There isn't a whole lot you can do in that case other than try to keep your dogs off his property. Like I said, I would just set up some hog traps and move the hogs you trap to another spot you hunt.

Thanks guys for all the commints! I think we got something for him ,,,every hog I catch i can turn it loose at the fence! Before long he will be overrun!   just jokin, We have taken all of you alls advice and have decided not to hunt it. At least don't hunt the side he is on, its so big we can stay 1 mile away.

that makes my stomach turn......to hear gunshots knowing that they are directed at my dogs would have me on FIRE.....don't know that i woulda been able to stand still...THANK GOD i wasn't in that situation......the "men" (if u want to call them that) that shot those dogs are lower than dirt! .......at least you know the dogs died doin what they loved. that puts me a a bad mood!

the mans place is his place,got to respect all... one of the reasons that we lost the right to retrieve,people used that as a legal way to tresspass,I love hunting  hate it when dogs get out of pocket,not knowing what you are up against...
