used rat shot, whips, etc. finally got em broke to a whistle , blowing it means get out. get in here. dont have to do all that screaming, and running them down. definetly get a schock collar, but dont over use it. remember you gotta use them reguarlly to be any goood. theres more to cow dogs than just an eat em up dog you have no controll over

Most of the cattle that I mess with dont need a dog to push them we need dogs to stop and hold. I use bmcs also but they work the sides and the front. I have the backin taken care of dont need them behind. Might help if you can get her around dogs that work the way you want her to. Stop letting her push the cattle. It is in her blood to go to the front ( I supose ). Let your heelers work the pens. Put her in the trailor.

ya shes good for front and sides, i used to have a lacy that would push, take the side and the front, i guess i just want her to be like that, but i know bmcs are bred for that.
* and when i say pushing them to traps and shoots, i dont mean heeling.

Well I use cur dogs!!My dogs should work like a gate when driveing cattle!! I do the pushing they do the finding and bunching!!When bunched I get behind ..they get ahead only.. then they give slack when needed and tighten when needed (open and close the gate)!! They make a breaker beg for the heard!! If one decides it wants to get real ruff then game on!!  I do not own a shock collar and do use a whip but most of the time to get there attention very seldom do I have to whip one!! I use them alot and they learn the comands that I ask!! Raiseing them in the yard will teach a pup more handle than any shock collar or whip!!

Hmm.... "come by" (go around the herd clockwise and bring them), "away to me" (go around the herd counter clockwise and bring them), "stop" (wherever you are STOP), "down" (hit the dirt), "way" (turn the herd left), "by" (turn the herd right), ""flanks" (been using this term right or wrong as a reminder to keep the dog from over flanking), "out" (get out now. - better see tail dock running away until I say stop or down)....

But I use a different type of herding dog  Grin

currs are supposed to get ahead or around the sides, having a heeler or a dog in the back barkin will draw your dogs to the back. like there saying on here, use currs or colliies or what ever but not both at the sametime. currs , leopards are lead or head dogs.
