Need someone that hunts in Hopkins county to tell me a little about the hogs there. Are they really big? Do they run alot? What type of method works for you on catching them with dogs? Just got some land to hunt up there and would like to know what type of dogs I sould bring?

I'm in Hopkins county and I am just getting started dog hunting but I have gun hunted here and gone with other peoples dogs for a long time. In my experience the hogs around me dont run. I've bayed within 100 yd. of jumping them and with pups to boot. I have been on some that ran a little but never miles. Never been on one that just wouldn't shut down. On the other hand I've heard stories of some that have but I don't think they're known for it. Size wise there are some big pigs, I shot a sow during deer season that weighed 300+. Most that I see and bay are 150 to 250 with a few real big ones here and there. That said, I havent hunted in every part of the county and it's a good sized county. Hit me up when you're going to be here, we might be able to hit a few other places that me and my buddies hunt.

what part of the county will you be hunting i live on the hopkins/hunt county line and have huted dogs here for about five years. we have one place that gets dogged alot and they tend to run a bit but most places are not bad about it we do have some large pigs around here but most of them just started growing teeth three years ago the biggest teeth we were catchin on 200#rs were about an inch but the last couple years we been finding some big teeth in the same places. must be something in the water.lol

I live in Hunt Co. and have hunted hopkins co. You really never know what to expect you just gotta bring your best dogs and jump in there. The more pressure you put on them the more they will break and run on you. Any of yall gonna enter my contest in Lone Oak the 26th, 27th, 28th???

They're about like hogs anywhere else, some big, some small, some run, some don't. The ones you dont catch push them a little ways north

It's going to rain today, it'll be wet. I'm seeing a lot of hog movement on my place right now so maybe it'll be a good hunt. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I'll know for sure the hogs are there when I see some fresh sign. Taking a couple young dogs. Old ones are out of service for a little while.
