Met up with Payton and Corey this morning around 7 to make a round but the spot was flooded real bad!  We decided to hit some high ground and caught this sow right off the bat and the dogs rolled out and got a shoat I believe and then the fun began!  Two of Paytons dogs stuck with a good hog as it made its way across the flooded ground to find an island about .7 out in the flooded bottom!  After walking in and realizing we could not get any closer we went and found a boat and some oak limbs to use as push poles and pushed our way in to pick up some very tired dogs.  Payton I will hunt with you boys anytime, had a good time and look forward to wearing em out when the water goes down.

nobody appreciates the hunts where you catch 5-6 hogs or 2-3 big ones till you get skunked a couple of times or have to really work to catch a couple.  seems like i cant get over the ones that get away

The flood gate operator at the dam upstream fell asleep with the valve open I think!!  Never seen water in some of the places it was waste deep in today.  Also had my first encounter with a cotton mouth for the year, he swam right up on log beside me, luckily his mouth already busy with a frog in it.

MAtt had a great time too not the typical hunt but it was one to remember.. We gotta do it again sometime soon when there is less water..lol but here is another picture of Corey and Hank up a tree.. I think Corey had enough of the water and Hank we just tired of swiming along with us so they found a tree to rest in  Grin

Great hunt guys,

You all need to come hunt with me, the last time that I saw a dog in a tree it was a young Walker Dog wanting a coon's a$$$ really bad, and that was a long time ago. Youth always equals fun, I am certain you youngsters and my boys would get along just fine. I will be the grumpy old fellow complaining about the light in my eyes, lol.... Looks like fun guys... You youngsters are always welcome at my fire.

The water makes for fun hunting.  Adds more to the adventure aspect.  I love a good adventure but I've also been in some flood situations that were just a little too much of it.

Just so you know 1X4 lumber makes good paddles.  You can stash some 1x4's on all the places you might need to paddle a boat.  Boats are easier to find than paddles and old boards will lay around forever but paddles alwas seems to get up and walk away. Angry.

Was the the Navasota or Trinity bottom?
