Cowboy Churches

Anyone here go to one? Where? How is the music? Where is it held?

Karla and I kinda alternate between the Cowboy Church in God's Country here in Hondo, services held in the show barn with a good band and music and the Cowboy Fellowship in Pleasanton. A great band and really good music. They have a huge building they built , but when they first started it was held in the show barn there. I think they over 1500 member now, kind of big for my tastes, but I still enjoy going on occasion .

I have never been to one but I can garuntee they make alot of money because I see them popping up all over.  Even well established churches around where I live are opening cowboy churches and tapping in to that market.  I do think it is a good way to reach out to a different group of people that may otherwise not hear the Word on Sunday morning but at the same time I find it a little funny to me and I wonder why they don't have football churches that show the game on Sunday after the sermon or maybe a monday night service before the game.

Im up for any way someone can come by to spread the Word and reach out to the multitudes. Matter of fact, Im thinking of starting a hog hunter church myself. Its a mobile church that is held in the woods any day or  night of the week. The band only has one song but its a good one!

Seriously, I have visited two Cowboy Churches. The one in Montgomery and the one in Field Store. Wonderful congregations and truly Spirit filled churches the both!!!
Call it a market if you want but they are reaching out to people and making Christians out of those that other churches have failed. I've seen it with my own eyes!
God bless all the Cowboy Churches out there and the work they are trying to do for You Lord!!!

Gotta be careful with any church though. They are all full of sinners. lol
 
God is where you find him. If you gather in his name He will be there!!!

Allan I do think that my post prolly came off a little jaded and probably not as respectful as it should have.  I think that any form of people reaching out to spread the Word is a positive thing and I was raised in church and still go when I can and start everyday in the Word with my breakfast.  I sometimes just see things from a negative perspective and I know that is something I need to work on.  You are right in one thing for sure, if there are people there on Sunday or Wed and they are congregating in the name of Lord and even one person is brought to Christ because of it being there then I am for it regardless of what takes place afterwords.

As long as The Word is well represented any type of church you want to go to is a great idea in my opinion. Maybe we could use some "new" churches alot of the old ones or more about "religion" and not enough Christian.

Yes cowboy churchs are good because they draw a in a different group of people!!

I have been to a few and they did not empress me but if people come and they are able to spread the word an they save one person then go for it!!

We  ( Karla and I ) are not " regular" church goers. We go pretty often, but not weekly.

Both of the churches we have been to are nondenominational outreach churches sponsored by the Southern Baptists.

What we do like is there is no pressure for anything. The message is usually just from the Bible and easy to follow. The country gospel at both of them is great .

Both have a ropin once a month, a big lunch after the service and they are come in what you're wearing.

There is another one in Pipe Creek and we plan to visit that one in a week or two.

I asked about them hoping to see if the others were pretty much the same as these. Just curious more than anything.

Allan it is funny you mentioned biscuits because I eat those jumbo sausage egg and biscuits every morning for breakfast    I dont crack open open the Bible every morning but I do read out of a daily devotional every morning while I am eating breakfast that has a short "sermon" if you will and some scripture that relates.  It helps get my mind right at the beginning of the day haha

BoarNinja, funny you should mention a hog hunting church. I go to the Cross Country Cowboy Church in Sulphur Springs TX where I lead the music and play in the band. We have actually been talking about starting an outdoor ministry team that would be all about hog hunting, deer hunting, fishing, bowhunting, you name it, if it has to do with the outdoors and wildlife we'd do it. There has been a lot of interest in the church and community just from discussing it. I can see a hunting or fishing trip with a short devotion and a good, clean, fun event. Nearly everyone in the community participates in some kind of outdoor activity. I'm not big personally on "church". I can have church in the woods or an arena or a cow pasture a lot easier than I can in a church building. It's about a relationship with Jesus, not a building or location. Hunt and go to church at the same time? I could do that! Btw, I really like the church I go to, I probably wouldn't be in church if it weren't for that church.

I am the music minister at my church too Levi!!  We don't have a pianist so I play guitar and I have a bass player on Sunday.  We are a small congregation, but all the guys here at the church hunt and fish and will come out to help with anything.  Our hog trappin honey hole is actually our pastors back yard.  I have been thinking almost the same thing; about trying to have a church sponsored hog hunt, or hunting expos.  Have you ever heard of Fishers of Men? My pastor used to fish that circuit.  They are a bass fishing organization that has tournaments, in order to fish, you have to attend a church service the night before, and they are encouraged to invite a "non-Christian" as their fishin partner, that way they have them at a church service the night before and in a boat all day to share the gospel.  I wonder if something like that annually would draw a decent hog hunting crowd to spread the good news?

My sister has been going to the one in Montgomery and she likes it. She said they always talk about hunting, hog hunting to. I will be attending tomorrow for anyone else that goes to that one I will see you there!

We had a great thing going twice a month on fridays when we had a cowboy church at the lomax arena. Brad DuBose is a fantastic preacher who always seems to tie his sermons in with training a horse. He would have his churche service -many of which I watched from my saddle - and then have a team sorting, extreme trail, or some other form of horseback activity. I guess popularity waned and preacher got moved to a church down in angleton and cowboy church at lomax just faded out.

I'm guilty of going hunting on Friday nights, and for a while I didn't support with my attendance either. I sure wish we still had cowboy church though, I miss it.

I loved the Cowboy Church in Montgomery! I love the ideals they are trying to accomplish and spread. I will be attending every sunday if im not hunting

Bobby there was one between Sealy and Bellville run by a cutting horse man named Sonny Rice. He was really nice. I don't know any more because we haven't been that way in a while. A few years back we went to the one given by Quail Dobbs at the Houston PRCA show really enjoyed them. They seem to be less formal and more fun to attend. GOD BLESS YOU ALL
