This was one wild day started out catching cows and ended catching cows but in between I got this call!!! I had just got in from catching a cow and unsaddled my horse when I got a call from the Sheriff Dept. Saying they had highway 59 shut down with a EMU in the Media for me to get there ASAP!! I looked at the horse I just unsaddled and said this is not your kinda trip ( He's already alittle broncy do not need no excuse to make him do it) So I pull my retirey out witch is now my little girls horse I try not to ride him any more because he is hers but a duty like this calls for him!!! He is 13 years old and one of the best 's I have ever rode the get it done kinda horse! The only time he almost through me was over an EMU I was penning cattle and the EMU'S were resting in sum smut grass I was in a lope and one jumped up and yes he sure enough spooked from it but when the other one jumped from the left he about lost me!!!! So I saddled up and called a friend of mine Wayne and he came to help!! We pulled up and the highway was backed up for aways so we had to go through the ditch to get up to the emu!!!When the EMU herd the trailers he took off down the media in a high run!! I unloaded and bailed to him!! My horse was not real sure the big bird got to a creek and turned back the cable gaurd was fenceing him off from the other side but when under pressure he jumped as soon as he jumped I through a hell mary loop ans caught him in mid air the loop went around his neck and just perfect over his BREAST!!! But when he hit the end of that rope he went to jumping about 8 to 10 feet in the air  and my horse went to jumping I am dallyed off and the horse jumped so hard that he pulled the bird into that cable witch sent the bird back in the air!! Waynes horse said not no but hell no to all this action!!!The bird finally jumped one last time and hit the ground my wife jumped on him and held him down while trying to kick her!!! Colman Waynes boy taped his feet!! but we still had to tie with the rope!!! I burt alot of feathers off him but he was fine!!Catching that thing on the first loop was a once in a live time expirence for me!!Oh and we had a big fan club rooting us on (traffic both sides of 59) The DPS Officers had his dash cam on so we might make it on wildest police videos!!!

I took oh Ike just in case I need my bird dog!!!

Haha NICE!  I have only been around those birds once and I was suprised at how stupid they were.  Run up and down the same section of fence looking for a hole when the gate as open 50 ft from them.  Good catch and nice pics.

I will hold him for 18 days then either have him put down or try to take him to huntsville to the exotic auction!!

Paul I ordered  a few of them 8.0 and  8.5  poly ropes and you talk about a handy little rope for ropeing hogs or EMU'S they sure are nice to have on the saddle for when you need them!!!!

Well there's not much we don't catch!! But another good story is when a women open her door to her house and a BIG potbelly pig ran in (Not hers) I had to go in to her house catch and tie this dang thing and he was a boar!! He might of been someone's pet but after chaseing him around a couch he had his grump on!! Hard to tie his belly was in the way of pulling the feet together!!!

We have done some wild things in are life and my kids have seen some of the wildest!!! But we don't tell alot of them because people look at us like we are lieing!! The teachers at the school say oh your kids tell fiction storys all the time!! I say what did they tell you?Huh? Oh Rowdy said that he went and roped a bull this weekend and why he was dallyed his horse went to bucking and he rode him all the way through it!!!  I said thats not fiction thats the TRUTH !!! She said but he's 9 years old !!! I said that kid learned how to count by counting Cows !!! I think I am going to have to brand words on the side of cows so he can learn to read!!!!

Haha! Talk about a neat word puzzle. Brand the words for a sentence on calves and have rowdy rope the calves and tie them in order so that the sentence makes sense.

Cheers
