Only in Texas does it rain more in the arid regions than it does else where.  This drought/flood/drought business is getting to be a little bit of a problem.  I am pretty sure San Antonio westward has had double the rain we have had around here this spring.  The winter grass is drying up and blowing away (literally) and the summer grass hasn't even started to grow yet.  Going to be a long summer....

I live 30 miles west of San Antonio and up until this morning we have been asking for rain badly.  We were actually in a burn ban as of yesterday.  My fields behind my house had cracks in the ground you had to jump over. With that said when i left my house this monring we had already been close to the 4 inch mark since 11 last night.  We are still getting it now, so just maybe that burn ban will be lifted.  We seam to live in an area that the rain just chooses to go around.

Matt, isn't there a nice tank at your parent's place for us all to cool off in?

We have been scurrying around trying to finish off more projects here at the house before the (predicted) rain this weekend. The new tractor warranted adding on another 20 feet to our hay/equipment barn. The tractor has a nice spot to park out of the weather, as does the mule. We got the sheep working arena finished last week, and last night the flock was dewormed - which is never a fun task in the mud. I think Chris got a good laugh watching me wrestle and get flung around by a 200 lb sheep when I grabbed wool from behind him. He started spinning like a bull for quite a few revolutions before I could get him straddled and under control.

Chris got out into the horse pasture with a box blade and rippers. We are preparing it for planting with Pensacola Bahia and so will lose the use of that pasture for 7 months to a year while it gets established.

So much to do while we still have dry weather!

It is getting a little frustrating though. My mowing jobs slow down when there's no rain to make the grass grow. As well, we have a huge garden in the ground down at the Garcia's that hasn't had enough rain to even germinate.
Cheers

Yeah I played in the mud all winter and cussed it the whole time and now that I am about through with the heavy work it dries out and gets hard as a rock.  All those folks out there putting that fertlizer down are the ones I smile at.  They were calling for 60% chance of rain tomorrow and Sunday and now it is 30% Sat and 0% Sun and the better chance is at the end of the ten day forcast (imagine that).  I guess I need to break down and have my hydroaxe work done while it is dry and then it can rain all it wants to haha

While you are using the heavy equipment, perhaps a dozer and a back hoe could build a nice little pond at your place too. You know, in case we can't make the haul all the way to your folks place. Casa Goodson is much more convenient to us  Grin

I already got one!  I made a trail with the tractor last weekend that allows me some access to that area with my Ranger, next time yall are over we can go for a ride and I will show you around a little better.  If I break down and get the grinding work done by then we will have access to about 8 acres that I haven't even seen yet.
The pond at my folks place is alot nicer than mine though  Grin

Set in raining up here 4 hours ago and looks like close to an inch.
Wind out of north about 60 mph and I'm ready to dive under the bed cause I think this will be a tornado in a few minutes.  Tongue

hooray! I will bring in the horses and sheep so I don't end up in a mud pit. I hope it holds off long enough for us to complete the manure bunk.

It was hot but I got the tractor work done. It has really come down. But Texas is the only place that rivers start in the dry land and flow to the wet.
