I guess I lucked out. The best strike dog I ever hunted with was a cross Plot and cur and he was silent on track. He would open when he was looking at the hog.
I always wanted a brindle Plot like that dog. Anyway, this Plot came up to work and they were going to haul him to the pound and I took him home. So far he is just what I wanted. I cannot complain about this dog at all. He is smart and easy to keep also.

would like to hear opinions on this, ive had dogs i would consider silent but if the hog breaks there may be some barking as long as the dog was close in on the runner but if the runner got out on him he would go back to silent till found or closed in again

So Oklahoma Cur Dogs

I just got this bluetick female out of Arkansas and have taken her out two times and she found and bayed a couple shotes both times. I would consider her pretty tight mouthed. First trip never herd a bark for a good hour then had a bay. She'll open a little if it runs. All by her self also.

I have a young Plott maybe 18 months old and so far she is pretty dang quiet. She don't have anymore mouth than a cur. Every now and then when the hog is running she'll bark a little, but nothing bad at all. My buddy has a BMC gyp that is way more open than her.

IMO runnin them with silent dogs help, but the mouth is still in the blood. I think alot of it is how much you allow them to bark when they are young other than hunting has alot to do with it. I hunt mostly hounds and I dont let them babble at the house or in the box. they bark when i feed them , when someone pulls up, or on a hog. It does help, But there are some hardheaded ones as any any breed. JMO
