Well we finally got to go on a hunt this morning....been in the DTs to go really badly. It had been weeks since I had had a chance to go hunting, but we went this morning after I got off duty. We had a little place where we had been feeding the hogs a bit over the last few weeks and they had hit it regularly. They had come out in some folks yard and rooted it up a little the other night. They had seen 2 big hogs and about 7 or 8 smaller ones and some pigs a few days ago. We drove across the creek and up the pasture and turned out. Went a big round back through the ridges and found sign right off but it played out. It had rained pretty hard here yesterday a few times so it would be easy to tell fresh sign. The dogs hunted good....I had my 2 and Alan had 4 of his. We finally came out to where the feeder was and found they had turned it over even with it tied to a sapling, set it up and moved on. We could see a lot of rooting in the field just by the edge of the woods below us, got closer and it was fresh, not rained on fresh! Moved on up the ridge aways and it was still all over the woods......I heard my white dog Belle sqeal which she does on a really hot track or when she's looking at a running hog, my brindled dog Abby was right behind her as they went over the hill out of sight. The rest of the dogs joined in and shortly we heard a hog squeal a time or 2 and then it went quiet but for Belle's squealing bark.....the baying started again and it was coming our way on the side of the ridge. They caught it again right below us, he never squealed again, I got there and they had it caught in a washed out ditch, we decided to stick it and let the guy that lives in the place that the yard got rooted up have the hog. He weighed about 110 lbs we guessed. The dogs were hot and we needed to get them to the creek and let 'em cool off a bit, so we got all of them on a lead and headed for the creek. It was nice to get out in the woods again even if it was a bit humid and it was good to hear our dogs catch a hog. Here's a couple of pics. Now we need to get back there and get into the big group soon.

Thanks Chopper,...I hadn't been hunting in quite a while and it sure was good to go again. The guy that we gave it to had never been hog hunting before, so it was all new to him. We let him gut the hog and he did pretty well with some help.

Yep John it felt really good to get out with my dogs. It wasn't all that hot but very humid which I'm sure you know about. I dread the summertime......it's way too humid here for me.

Well that I'm not sure of. The guy I got her from is now a friend of mine and lives in south GA where we hunt so much,.....he said that he got 4 pups from an older guy that told him they were half cur (didn't say what kind) and half fiest. He didn't have them but a few days when 2 of them got out and never were seen again....another one up and died, so Belle is the only one left. To make it even worse, he doesn't remember who the guy was that he got them from or where he lived. She's a pretty good dog....is fast and has a good nose and can find a hog if there's one to be found. Wish I could get some more just like her.

I hear ya. I don't care if they're green with white poka dots as long as they hunt.

Nice hog. I think its interesting how in the summer the forum shifts from a bragging board about all the hogs that are caught to everyone discussing breeding their dogs.....  Grin
