Friday I met up with Longshot and made a hunt with him in Leakey. We were right on the edge of a big storm and hoping to catch a few before it got nasty. We hunted on the headwaters of the Frio River, saw some awesome country and caught two hogs before the weather hit us and called it a day.

This may not apply to us:

My female jagd, Sis, went her own way and Buster and James's young gyp, Sage, headed up a big draw. Shortly Sis opens bayed on a good red hog. On the way to her we notice the other two dogs are showing bayed on the garmin about 1/2 mile over the hill.

James rewarding his young dog:

This is where the Frio River starts:

Saturday morning Savoy met at my house for a hunt down the road. One of his buddies who leases the ranch had some friends down that wanted to hunt with dogs. It was most of the guys first dog hunt. We had a good hunt catching 4 hogs. The first two hogs Savoy's dog Sally bayed. We headed to the other end of the pasture. On the way Black Bart winded and bailed from the ranger. He ran few hundred yards and bayed. Sent the catch dogs to him and he rolled out on a hog that went about 2 miles baying and breaking several times before we ended with a hog.

Great job guys I think that is the prettiest part of Texas.  My son learned to swim in the Frio several years ago around Concan. Sure brings back memories, thanks guys.

Cool hunts...The head of the Frio River.  Not too many people in this world have seen that!

No music on the videos?

Yeah...it was amazing the amount of water that was coming from that hole on the side of that hill....and the river began.

My filming is not that good so i didnt think it deserved music.  Grin

Great pictures!

I have been deer hunting in Leakey for going on 4 years now and every time we get a hog on a game camera, its a big boar with long nasty tusk. I would love to run my dogs out there but it sure looks like tough hunting.

We always see dead hogs on the highway in the same general area coming in to Concan also. Must be a lot of hogs in that area.

That's some nice looking country.

Longshot-  Who's the dog in the seventh pic?  Is that your Zeus X Pickle pup?  If so, how's it progressing?

The road crosses the creek and the rocks are marking where to drive....or not to drive.  Grin

sounds like a great hunt sorry i missed it.
this is really one of the prettiest places i have hade the pleasure of hunting you just have to be really careful its easy to get in trouble with all those bluffs but then again most hill country hunts end up on a cliff or in the river
great pics but still does not do the place justice
