Hey guys,new to the site.Been "trollin" for about a week now,lots of good pics and discussion. I've been hog huntin since i was old enough to walk and have owned a bunch of dogs,but never a Kemmer Cur. Just picked up a little Kemmer gyp yesterday.Just wantin to know if any of you guys have one and what you think of the breed itself. Dont see that many around here(central florida)that i know of. I prefer Florida curs myself,but i figured i give her a try.Thanks

Jabo, welcome to ETHD. I believe Underdog and Marshall on here are pretty familiar with the Kemmer's. I had a Kemmer/cat cross from Marshall that was making a good dog, I lost him to heat stroke last year.

I have three kemmer's that are very good dogs! My dad has a herd of kemmer's some are good and some not so good! They are just like any other breed their are good ones and bad ones. They are very tempormental dogs so I wouldnt advise whooping them when they mess up!

Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear you got three good ones,makes me feel a lil better.Like you said though theres always good ones and bad ones.She does seem a lil tempermental. |

I ruined one that was doing real good! So just be careful on how you correct her and she may make a jam-dog! Most of the kemmer's dad & I have raised had lots of hunt in them.

Just be particular where your Kemmer comes from. There are a ton of people just breeding for papers on those dogs. That sure won't help the breed and it's probably what is producing some of those that don't make good dogs.

a guy that hunts with us has a few they open up on trail and trash some but they are pretty good dogs, they have good noses and you can hear em from a good distance, where you at in central Fl. i have some land in Oak Hill but dont get up there much

X2 my kemmer has all of those symtoms!!  open on hot track, almost a hound mouth, good nose, trash some, and tempermental. He is not gritty at all either. |

had a half kemmer half bmc that was turning into an outstanding dog before i hung it up because of my divorce

My best dog is a kemmer. She is silent and will hunt like no other dog that I own. I have seen her hunt for 27+ miles on the Garmin on a many of days. My other dogs are Parker Curs and she is not gritty like them. She has never trashed either. The only problem that I have is she is fixed and I can't get any puppies from her:(

Like said alraedy, alot of hunt,alot of nose but not the kinda of dogs to be heavy handed with. The good ones are real good but the bad ones well...you know. I do think they have better noses than alot of cur dogs and as much or more than others as well but can be shy and independent,just depends on who you get them from. I also think they cross well when done right.A good percentage will be open or semi on track as well.

I have 3 kemmers and my Grandpa has 8. There is good and bad in all breeds no matter what it is. I hunt mostly hounds thats why i lean more toward the kemmers. The right ones have a good nose (for a cur) Bays good, and can go all day. Where I hunt there is not alot of hogs and a dog has to have a nose and the stickin power. Here is my Doc Holiday kemmer from Tn. He was 7 months old in this pic and trailed, ran, stoped, and kept this hog bayed an hr before we got there. Not bad for a pup and he is ruff as a cob.  He is BJ BUCK x Yellow Jack Breed.  |
