I just got 2 pups over thier parvo stint about 3 months ago. the pups are almost 7mths now and are doing fine. i got 3 new pups and 1 has what looks to b a bad case of parvo, but the other 2 haven't shown any signs of the virus,( thank GOD). the other 2 are still playfull and are still sucking on the mom which is good b/c of her anti-bodies, but they were eating hard food but seems that they cant get enuf to eat. the new pups are 6wks old. does any1 know how get rid of parvo in the yard? i dont think it is in my yard anymore b/c the other 2 pups are doing fine and 1 of them is the runt. i need to get rid of this dang virus, PLEASE any help would greatly be appriciated.

i would try lime. Just guessing. My girlfriends lab came down with it and she took him to the vet and got over it but none of my other puppies have caught it.

BLEACH EVERYTHING!!!  Spray Bleach all over the yard. wash and bleach anything the infected pup could have come into contact with. Dispose of any bedding they could have gotten in.

It takes a long time for the virus to die out of the ground, but Bleaching and lime is suppose to help.

I am not calling you a liar but how certain are you it is parvo?  There are serveral things that puppies can get that can kill them/make them sick that isn't parvo.  Cochcidiosis looks alot like parvo and can kill a pup if they get dehydrated enough.  Worms can kill puppies as well even if you are worming them.  I know a whole litter that was nearly lost due to worms and the pups were barely 6 weeks old.  Just wondering if you had the vet do a necropsy or if you are just assuming parvo.

That happened to me awhile back. The wormer i was using didnt work. Dang WAL-MART!!
They showed alot of the symtoms of Parvo, but it was actually from the worms.
Bloody stool, wont eat/drink, wont hardly move/ wont hold their head up.
The only pups that lived were the ones that i sold, and got a good dose of a better wormer.
I thought it was parvo, but my aunt is a vet, and she is the one who checked them and told me what it was.
By that time i had already lost nearly every pup.

I know its prarvo b/c the vet tested my last set of pups that survived and tested this 1. I almost 100% sure its parvo or the vet is using a parvo tester that is a false test. Everything was bleached including the yard, we used 10gal of bleach in the back yard alone and 5gal in the front and bleached every spot the pups pooed as soon as they were done. didnt know about lime though. my other 2 pups aint got it yet but like i posted, they are still nursing even to b 6wks old.

I was told and may be completly wrong but...I was told that dirt neutralizes bleach making it not work.  Lime is what I was told to use.  I still bleach everything and  have had almost every pup on our place get parvo. Just have to catch it early enough and keep em hydrated and i give them a 1/2 cc on penicilian.  Parvo, worms and the disease that mocks parvo (coronas)?  are all awful and very preventable.  I have started letting my pups nurse a week longer, giving their shot a chance to be more effective with the moma dogs antibodies.  I would like to know if the bleach thing was a myth or not? Anyone else know?

I've used bleach to kill out the parvo.  The bad thing is that it's almost impossible to get bleach every the parvo is.  Also the parvo will lay dorment in the until activated usually when the ground is wet.

oh about the parvo (NO SUCH THING) get a bottle of ALBON.  get it at the vet, give 1cc at 6 weeks of age for 3 days repeat at 10 weeks.

you might think im crazy but you learn a lot about dogs after 30 years.  NO MORE DEAD PUP,S  try it and you can thank me later.

Albon is for Coccidia, you can buy it from the vet or they sell the gallon version for chickens at Jeffers/AgVet and you can dilute it (I do not have ratio with me).

Parvo and Coccidia have a distinct smell and a lot of the same symptoms.  I would say if the puppy is still alive it is Coccidia and not Parvo, start him on Albon for 10 days and then do a good worming cycle;  I have started using Valbazen with Ivomec added and it has done wonders for our dogs/puppies.

Our puppies ar quarntined until they are 16 wks to our puppy pens/pasture as we do not give parvo shots.  I am a firm believer they are a false security and if you do not time their shots right @ 16 wks they run a bigger shot of getting sick if exposed to the virus.

Well the first male didnt live and the sec has something and now just today the female started throwing up but aint lathargic and the last male aint to lathargic. he has been in a kennel inside since fri mornin when he strated throwing up. i gave him a bath and he wanted to run around while i was drying him off but when i got back in the kennel he will lay around until he has to poo or throw up. to me it doesnt sound like parvo and from the last 2 pups that were twice these pups age, they layed around a lot more. any thoughts of what it may be?

ok....i know people think alot diffrently but i have worked for 2 great vets for the past 6 years and have learned alot.....i also have had alot of dogs....and have delt with the parvo virus at work and at home as well. the only thing you can do to prevent it is to vaccinate your pups at least 1 weak before you decide to wean them or offer any food(the mothers milk helps the pups ammune system) keep up with vaccinating them on time. they should get at least 3 if not 4 shots to be fully covered. the second thing i would recommend is to keep your pups and gyp on concrete floors and keep them clean with bleach/water. the pups will need at least 2 vaccines to be simi protected if you have had parvo on your ground for  7 years or less. the man that was talking about worming regularly is right about keeping a routine, it will help if your pups are parasite free, expecially if the get parvo. the parvo virus looks similar to what a pup looks like that has coccidia but they are two totally different things and need two totally different treatments. just worming alone will not keep your pups from getting parvo...been there done that... hope this helps. oh ps. if you dont vaccinate your dogs on an annual basis at least vaccinate(parvo booster) the gyp you are planing on breeding or have bred to boost her ammune systen wich will in return help the pups ammune system. hope this helps you out, Dejah Krueger

ps. if the vet tested the pups and the test was positive than it is 98% right if it was negative it could be a false negative and the parvo antigen which is what the the test looks for in the fecal may not be stronge enough for the test to pick up(to early)....once the virus is contractded it takes 10 days before the pups should start showing signs. if i were you i would vaccinate the 6 week old pups you have and keep them off the dirt and away from the other sick pups you have untill you get at least 2 shots in them....the pups with parvo will shed the virus for two weeks so keep them penned up and try to keep it as clean as possible. good luck!!!

Kbar i done vaccinated them a wk ago and they had thier shots b4 the guy i bought the gyp and pups from brought her down. his ritialistic bout vaccinating and worming his dogs and pups. I just got 2 pups ovr from parvo bout 2-3 mths ago and wasnt expecting to get the pups so soon but he brought them down anyways and i hav them inside in a kennel and wash the male off with a cap full of bleach to a gal of water when i clean him after he poos in the cage. would an above ground birthing kennel made of 306ss 1/4" expanded steel and plywood and 4x4 legs sprayed down with a 50/50 mix of water and bleach every other day work to keep the next litter of pups safe? I'm fixn to take this last sick male to the vet and get him tested for both viruses tommorrow. he aint eating or drinking and we are givin him puppy pepto for the squirts and upset stomach and 70cc of iv fluids every 2-4hrs under his hide to keep him hydrated and plain yogort for something in belly. when i bathe him he is very active and wants to run around but when put in his kennel he goes back to being lathargic and the female is starting to thin down and aint eating or drinking but she is getting the same treatment minus the pepto but is highly active. the male aint got anymore blood in his poo, it is now just a watery with slight skim of consistancy in it but nothing near solid. any thoughts on him with the info provided?

as long as the kennel (birthing pen) is cleaned once real good before the pups are born it should be fine....i would recomend not letting the gyp in and out.....she will bring the virus in and out on her feet.....just leave her and pups in kennel till they have there shots atleast 2 (the higher the quality of the vaccine the better....i use duramun by fort doge your vet will have a good quality vaccine as well)and you are ready to wean them. keep up the sub-q fluids and pepto .... we usually dont give any food untill the pup stops vomiting.... sometimes a empty tummy is better....maybe give him some 1 cc karo syrup to keep him from getting hypoglycemic( low blood sugar) 2 x a day mix it with a couple cc of water so its not to rich. hope this helps. let us know how they are doing.

bleach is suppose to kill parvo, but it also kills grass, i forget the name but there is stuff to put in your yard that will kill parvo but not kill your grass, me personaly i figured if it killed parvo and my grass two birds one stone
