Say you have a very good bred gyp around 10-11 months old. She is showing a lot of promise at her age but a long way from proving herself as a dog you would keep. She manages to escape for a few hours when nobody is home wile in full heat. You drive up and she is laying in the yard close to where your best dog is chained but the neighbors Jack Russel is humping on her. The little guy is trying for all he is worth but doesn't seem to be close to getting the job done. You catch her and pen her back up after taking a few missed kicks at your neighbors JR, wondering just what the heck happened wile you were gone. No other dogs were around at the time and that Jack Russel is around almost every day just to visit anyway. The only male dog that could have bred her other than the JR is the dog you would have bred her to anyway but, only after she had proved herself within your standards as a hog dog. What would you do if she ended up pregnant? No right or wrong answers here. Im just wondering what different folk would do.

Hey Alan, you can take her to the vet and get a shot that will abort her in case one did breed her. This will bring her back into heat again but you will have to make sure that she cant get out this time. This will allow you to breed her when you want to what you want. This is what i would do, so that to ensure she is bred to the dog you want. Just my .02 worth.

Hey Spencer. I was wondering about what kind of time frame you have with the shot you refer to. How long do you have to give a dog that shot after you think she might have been bred?

Ever heard of "The Dog Trade"? ![Evil](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/evil.gif) Couldn't resist. "Sire is relentless!!!" It will sell 3 litters off that line alone.

The shot is lutalyse and you give it within 72 hours of when the deed was done. Almost instantly, the dog will start getting uncomfortably hot, panting, and possibly whining within a few hours. It causes cramps but is pretty good at terminating the pregnancy. Some vets won't do it because it is kind of hard on the dog. I question if it is not as hard as whelping and raising puppies. I know that I would get the shot if there was any questions - especially if the dog really needs to be in the woods hunting and not laid up bred.
Cheers M

Not sure on the time frame, but i would do it ASAP. I had to have it done with my German Shepherd back in college, but thats been years ago! ![Shocked](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/shocked.gif)

I knew thats what they used on cattle, but didn't know they used it on dogs to. Thats some potent stuff. I was told back in H.S. not to get it on your hands cause it would make you sterile(sp) for a while. ![Shocked](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/shocked.gif)

go to the vet and get it done if its not too late. one of the crappiest things to deal with is a litter of unwanted unexpected pups. like someone else said especially if that dogs needs to be in the woods and not bred. its happened to me before and i definitely regret not going the shot route.

I had a similar deal occur a couple years ago... somehow the pups did not make it through their first day. ![Wink](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Dog was back to hunting in a couple weeks, rather than a couple of months.

I will give you $10 for the whole litter!! But going to tell you up front I'm going to sale them on craigslist for $500 a piece as Nija breed cur dogs!!!
More than likely the Jack never breed her being he was still humping his life away!! Most males once they have breed will settle for awhile!! I would say they would be curs if anything!!!
They were suposed to pull the shot off the market!! I was told by a vet it was because the shot gave people another option out of spaying they would rather spay!!

I had an unwanted litter 2 years ago, and the ants got them about a weak after they were born and gyp got sick and died a few days later. So if the ants do get them, hopefully for the gyps sake if will be before the pups start sucking.

Ninja, gotta hate those accidentally on purpose breedings ![Grin](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/grin.gif) . For me it depends on which lickers your refering to first of all, second there are many ways to fix accidents. But I wouldn't let her go through the stress of carrying full term just to loose the pups either way ![Wink](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/wink.gif) . And all BS and smiley's aside its all up to the ninja, decide what you want to do and get your vets opinion, the wrong advice could be dangerous!

Hey Alan, thanks for the advice but I already have my mind made up about such matters. I am just interested in what others would do. This thread has paid off too! Chance gave me a good idea for my neighbors problem. He had a weiner dog breed his chiwahwa. Im going to post them on Craigs List as Ward bred Chaweinnie stock dogs and see what I can get for them. My sales pitch is simple. Cow dogs that dont eat much and you can haul them in a saddle bag! ![Grin](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/grin.gif)
