Anyone on here have any homemade automatic dog feeders or some type of feeder that you can feed your dogs from the outside of the pen?Huh? With the new job I'm getting won't be spending as much time home and I thought I would try and make it easier on the wife. Any ideas or pics would be helpful.

My thought process light bulb has turned on just yet as far as a way to feed my dogs from the outside of the kennel but was wondering what your kennel set up looks like as maybe it would be easier to think something up if we had an idea of what you got going already. My problem is I have 3 cages and all 3 are different set ups along with I have 3 50' runners to figure out how to feed.

You can use 4 in (bout 18 inches long drill little holes on the bottom to let water through if it rains) PVC with a Y at the bottom and a removable cap and zip tie the body to the door.Like those deer feeders.

I had these door mounted feeders made by TNT Body Works out of Florida. If memory serves me right, they were appx. $30 each.

I sure like the set up you have there Bryant. That's what I was looking for, just wonder if you could double the measurements of a rabbit feeder and do it myself. I believe that would work.
I thought about the PVC but thought a couple of my dogs love to chew and figured I would be replacing them alot. They manly chew when they don't get to go hunting, I think it makes em' mad. LOL

i dont have kennels, but it seems to me it shouldnt be to hard to cut a square out of each kennel and attach any kind of dog automatic feeders, just drill some holes in it and bolt it to the kennel, probley wouldent work to well on chainlink kennels because it wouldent be strong enough, but if yours is like Bryant's it should be pretty easy.

I have one kennel rigged up with a 30lb self feeder for skinny dogs, pups, or whatever.  I just mounted it to the panel on the inside of the pen a few inches off the ground.  I figure having to open the pen and walk in once every couple weeks isn't too bad.  The self feeders are more expensive than the ones I had made, and many dogs won't maintain weight on a constant supply of feed.

I just cut a plastic gallon and made a funnel. Put tubing from home depot on it. Wired the bowl to the side of the kennel. Then I can just put the tube in the bowl from the outside. I would like auto but $

This idea has been floating around in my head for a while and I am going to try and describe it the best I can.  If your kennels are in a line u use 4 inch pvc or something like that.  Attach it to a board or something then cut in in two every 5 or 6 inches making 7 or so. Then sliding in plywood or something into the slots to hold the food.  Tie rope to the inserts pull rope and food falls out.  May have to use your imagination a little but think you get the idea.

This is what I use, Mine are 4 foot tall and I only have to fill them 3 times a month. The dogs seem to eat less and look a heck of alot better.

I have two automatic feeders! My boys!! They love to hunt & they take it upon themselves to feed, wash dogs, & clean the kennels! They are a little pricey tho!

Thanks for all the ideas, I think I have figured something out. When I said automatic I ment something outside the pen that you can just poor the amount of food you wanted each dog to have. Should have cleared that up. As far as buying one. I know they sell them at walmart but didn't want to spend that much money and have my dogs be able to eat anytime they wanted.

I have a little boy that is 3 and a girl that is 1 1/2 years old. One of these days I hope they will be more than willng to help take care of the dogs.
