Fellers, do yall find that while huntin in the summer the dogs have a lot harder time workin the track.  It seems to me that the humidity and the heat plays a big role in how the dogs work...I just about decided that to go in the mornings after daylight is a waste of time, guess i better get the headlight out...

Its always seemed to me that a dog has a harder time catching a scent when its this hot but I still prefer early morning just because I can't see snakes at night.   That's just me though.

This is the first summer in a long time I just can't get excited about hunting, just too hot. I agree that the early morning hunt is all but done, at 815 here yesterday morning the heat index was 95. I hate snakes and spiders but I hate the heat worse than those two combined.

We dont hunt the mornings much around here. I'd say 95% of our hunts are at night but were having to start later and later. The dogs will tire alot quicker with the heat and then you have the worry of heatstroke. We went out last night, started huntin around 9pm and got done at 3:15 this morning and the temp never droped below 86 and very humid. So being its already gettin this hot this early this year, looks like were gonna have to only hunt maybe one night a week as not to stress the dogs so bad.

Get out early, I think the scent evaporates with the dew making it hard even for a seasoned dog.

Ill take a snake over a damn spider web or a spider crawling on me. i noticed that the dog are having a harder time findin a track too. They got on one last week and he ran on them into a open pasture. we seen him so we walked up to where he ran through and it took them a while to pick it back up and didn't seem to sure about it.
