what is really happening down there on the coast. all i know is what the news reports. how is this going to affect the lives of the people on the coast , the ecosystem and sea food ?

Don't really know how it is affecting the seafood industry, but they say it is. I know out here working in the Gulf they have almost completely shut it down. I think the last count is 33 deepwater rigs down. We are shut down right now trying to get all of our BOP equipment reinspected. Most all the businesses that sell or inspect well control equipment should be doing pretty good. Lots of lives have been cahnged because of this.
All I can say is don't belive half of what you here on the news. They know nothing about the oilfield. It really ticks me off when I here them talking about all this going on and if you know anything about the oilfield you know they don't what they are talking about. Yes this has had an enviromental impact and will take a long time to recover. But this is no reason to shut the gulf down completely. It will be worse on everyone if they continue to keep the gulf shut down from drilling. My personnel opinion is that I have no doubt BP is doing everything in their power to get this well stopped and to clean up this mess. Everyone complaining needs to come on down to the beaches and marshes and help clean up. If they keep harrasing BP for money they will file bankruptsy and no one will get money. My biggest concern is that people will be getting money that is not supposed to be. Which is just like stealing. Well I am just rambling on here. I could talk about this all day I guess because I work out here and it just strikes home for me. All JMO

Hillbilly, I couldn't agree with you more. My husband works for Saipem, formally known as Sonsub, and it is definately taking it's toll on them as well. The company handles boats that are equipped with ROV's, and my hubby is senior supervisor for one. With all that Obama is doing they have demobed 2 of the 3 boats, and are working on a bunch of layoffs. Sad Sad deal. Heard a quote from the president that siad he "is shutting down the gulf for the safety and good of the men that work out there." Well, all I can say is "don't do us any favors Mr. Unless you are going to pay our mortgages and buy our groceries." GGGRRR

I hope and pray you guys down there all get to get back to work soon, my dad was a driller his whole life and in the early 80's things got bad around here we lost everything and although we recovered he was never the same man again. My hopes and prayers are with ya'll, good to know first hand whats going on & please keep us updated. Good post Craig

u know alot of the problem... is that they havent stopped the leak...why cant they stop it....if they would just get it stoped alot of angry people would shut up.... just do what ever it takes to stop the leak....and alot of people will be happy.. or will at least shut up,,,,, JUST STOP THE DAM LEAK..... IT DONT MATTER AT THIS POINT WHO DOES IT... JUST DO IT ALREADY

You got to realize what you are saying you can't just go out and stop the leak overnight or in a month. It is lots of things you have to do. People need to realize this. They didn't drill the well that is blowing overnight so how do people expect them to drill another to stop the one from blowing overnight. With that said though they are geting closer. I am hoping it will be stopped in a couple more weeks. Hopefully.

Gottagettem, I understand your frustration, however, like Hillbilly said, it took DWH a little over a month to drill the well, so it is unreasonable and impossible to ask them to be able to get another well tapped into that one any faster than that. AND, I have every confidence that BP is doing everything it can to get the problem fixed, but having constant criticism, and nagging about the way they do things and how they handle situations doesn't help and only makes it harder on them. Right now there is a mixture of to many chiefs and not enough indians, and a whole lot of people who want to b*tch, moan and complain, but are to good/afraid to get their hands actually dirty. JMO
One last note, for those of you who say that we shouldn't have been drilling, and that if the companies/guys had been more careful then the explosion never would have happened, do you realize that prior to the DWH tragedy there had been 1 million manned hours under their belt with no accidents or hiccups? The guys go through rigorous training and testing yearly, as well as run drills once a week, every week. The safety of the men is number 1, and everyone knows it.

What has made me more mad than the leak is not taking the help that other countries have offered... not approving the things that the governors want to do to protect their coast lines... and all the other BS that can be contolled. Its not surprising though... the more mess it makes... the easier it is to push for other energy sources.  |

he should take all the help he can get... u think it would make it a little easier to clean up with help..... but no .... we dont need help..... i know it takes time to stop leaks ... it just dont get done when u say so .. but after u tried to stop it .. so many times.. and with no success.... then just ask for help...... or just step aside.....and just pay the bill for someone else to fix ur f@@k up..... but by all means just get it stopped and stop refusiing blame and help..... with bp doing this ... it is hurting the other companys.... bye giving the whole industry a bad rep....and. making it tougher for them to do their jobs......maybe its just me .. but that company is making it worse on other companys...... and our president's actions speaks for his words... i bet they wont be saying four more years for him......he sucks.. he hasnt done number 2 what he said he was going to do......but hay thats just my opinion...who am i really?

They should have had them big skimmer boats out there a month ago and they still don't have them. Cause they want let them come over. As far as the other things BP has tried to kill the well from the top. I knew they wasn't going to work. I think it ws just something they could say they was doing just to pacify the media and the people.

Guys you would be pissed off to no end if you knew the BS politics going on with this clean up. I got knee deep in this crap a couple weeks ago when several clients where asked to help with the clean up effort by providing massive amounts of labor. One company was providing 700 workers and the other was asked to provide 1000. They secured the proper insurance policies for a project like this, developed SOP's and safety guidelines, and started to line up the workers. Just when they were ready to go the feds stepped in a said "Whoa! Where's all the union help? This isn't moving one step further until the unions get a shot at providing some workers." Two weeks later not a single person that my clients have lined up to help has been allowed the step foot a beach and you can thank your president and his cronies for that.
