I have been reading on here and I have read numerous times where people mention a breed as being bred for hunting hogs. Most of what I have read about most breeds has been that most were originally bred to hunt multiple species of game and were later adopted by hog hunters. Well, my question is, is there any breed of dog that from its origin was specifically bred for hunting hogs and only hogs?

I dont believe so, the type of game hasnt changed. Hunting mentality would have been the same. Whatever is available will be tried, some work out better for certain types of game than others, but that doesnt mean the dogs wont be tried. History repeats itself.

The boxer is a cross btw a Bullenbeisser which is extinct and a english bulldog not what we think of as a english bull dog but more like a olde english bd anyways some say that they did this to cut down on the dog aggressivness of the Bullenbeisser but have a dog that could still catch and hold look up the origin of the boxer and if u read deep enough u will find mention of it. I don't know which is true just posting what I have read that is y I did not post boxers and the catdo was bred specificaly for pigs

Close, but the literature I came across stated: The germans wanted to create their own version of a bulldog and have it be diff from the english version. In addition to the unpedigreeed bull biter style dog bred to the old white english bulldog they also added a boarhound that was in part predecessor to the Great dane, and some literature says pointer was also added. There are pictures of solid black boxers that exsisted at one time in boxer history. However, the show ring didn't favor this color variation and that gene was bred out. These dogs were used as protection dogs more so than baiting. They were also tried on other dogs for a period of time. Their name came from how they used their paws when put in this situation.

Bull Arab and catdo. Every other breed that I've read on and that is a lot were bred for many different breeds. Whether that be cows by day and hogs by night etc. The weimariener was actually a dog bred to fail. They wanted a dog that would point birds AND trail big game. These two traits are in direct conflict of each other cause any bird man will cull a bird dog that puts it's on the ground to trail a bird. Bmcs were bred for cows and hogs.
Most breeds were originally bred for multiple game because most dogs were needed to food on the table. One can't be choosey when u are trying to feed ur wife and kids. The pointer is probally the only hunting dog that I know of that was bred just for birds because royalty were the only ones allowed to own them. Pits were just bred for bulls but then dogfighting became popular so they were bred just for that. The am bulldog was bred for hogs bulls and and home protection. Now they are bred for hogs and weightpull and a few are used in personal protection.

Where are you guys getting this stuff? Weimaraners were failures even as bird dogs. Dogos were developed to hunt pumas and other game as well. People please do some research before posting. Im sure that was a serious question.
